Why the hell do I do this to myself? I'm currently watching "Saw III" and all I can say is "Yeesh."

I am not really one for the gore and the thought of limbs being cut off or mutilated really and truly turns my stomach. So why do I let myself watch movies like Saw and Hostel? They totally freak me the hell out, and not really in a good way.

I think the popularity of sadistic torture movies is really a sign of the times. It's the end of the world, baby, and even though we're having a super good time... we are really not fine. Maybe we really are the artisans of our own bleak fate, the destroyers of our own humanity and all in the name of brainless entertainment and sexual pleasure.

The fact that I will probably see Hostel 2 actually sickens me, but I can't look away from the horror.

BTW, movies like the Ring make me laugh. "Here, there's this movie that will kill you if you watch it." "Great, put it right to the top of my Netflix queue."
