One hundred percent serious rn
Dec. 22nd, 2025 10:56 pmWhy does the food pantry place always insist on giving me these massive bottles of vegetable oil? I mean, 48 oz worth of vegetable oil is ridiculous. Who uses that much oil? Why do they even sell them this size? I have never in my life been able to use the entire bottle before it expires. Seriously, I'm doing good to use an entire 6.2 oz bottle of sesame seed oil in an entire month, and I actually like the taste of that. Who the fuck can possibly use 48 oz of vegetable oil in less than a year? What are they using it for? Are they using it for sex lube? Cuz that's the only thing I can think of to explain it. I can't even begin to fathom what you would need that much vegetable oil for.
The oil in question:

I literally never ask for it, and they just give it to me anyway. I'm too polite to refuse it. Getting better at telling them no to things they give me that I have no use for or can't stand, but it's a work in progress.

Date: 2025-12-23 09:45 am (UTC)For a specific example, I cannot stand the taste or texture of eggs cooked in any kind of oil. Eggs are barely edible to begin with unless scrambled, and scrambling eggs in oil makes them absolutely vile. The only fried whole eggs I can eat are fried in butter.
If I'm frying something, I will almost always use butter because it actually tastes good, and the textures that result from it are tolerable to me. Oils, though? Nope. Bad flavors, bad textures, and they make everything way too greasy. The one exception being sesame seed oil. I used to have a second exception of hot chili oil, but I have IBS and cannot do that anymore.

I would refuse even a tiny bottle of that for myself, because unidentified "vegetable oil" very likely contains corn oil, canola oil, or both, and I can't eat corn or canola. (Well, I can put them in my mouth and swallow them, to my very strong regret later. So I don't knowingly do that!)
