Take on a scenic and challenging trail course in the Kaibab National Forest, close to the South Rim entrance of Grand Canyon National Park. The race begins and ends in Tusayan at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center IMAX, making it easy for runners, families and spectators to gather before and after the event.
The marathon and half-marathon travel primarily along forest roads through ponderosa pine country. Runners should expect hills, rocky sections, soft dirt and hard-packed forest roads. The 5K follows a more accessible course made up primarily of the paved Arizona Trail, with approximately one mile on a hard-packed dirt road.

The courses travel through the Kaibab National Forest and the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument.

The race-day experience continues in Tusayan after participants cross the finish line. Planned activities include a beer garden, a fundraising pancake breakfast and an artisan fair featuring work from local and Tribal artists.
Runners and their guests can also explore the restaurants, shops, tours and attractions located near the start and finish area.
The Grand Canyon Visitor Center IMAX is located at the race start and finish in Tusayan, approximately one mile from the South Entrance to Grand Canyon National Park.
After the race, step inside to enjoy Grand Canyon: Rivers of Time on a six-story-high IMAX screen. The film takes audiences through the canyon’s landscapes, history and human stories in approximately 37 minutes.
The Visitor Center IMAX also offers food, shopping, park information and convenient restroom facilities near the race staging area.
Tusayan sits at approximately 7,000 feet above sea level. Runners arriving from lower elevations should allow time to adjust and should account for the effects of altitude during the race.
Late-October mornings can be cold, while afternoon temperatures may be considerably warmer. Bring layers and check the local forecast shortly before race day.
The marathon and half-marathon are not road races. Trail shoes, careful pacing and experience on uneven surfaces are strongly recommended.

Is the race inside Grand Canyon National Park?

Is this a road race?

Are pets allowed on the course?
No. Pets are not permitted to accompany participants on the official race course.
Are children and strollers permitted?
Children and strollers are permitted in the 5K. The children’s 5K is intended for participants ages 1–12. Check the official registration page for complete participation requirements.
Are restrooms available near the race?
Restrooms are available inside the Grand Canyon Visitor Center IMAX near the start and finish area. The organizer advises that portable restrooms are not available along the National Forest sections of the course.
Can I register on race day?
The organizer currently states that race-day registration is available during the hour before the race, subject to space and registration availability. Registering in advance is strongly recommended.
