Yesterday I did my second day of Week 4 for the 5k. I had to use my old non running shoes because before when I started walking with my new shoes I could feel them rubbing against my heels and the blisters I had that had basically started to heal began to bleed again uh. So I can't even take the shoes back because I bled on them, so I decided to wash them as a last ditch effort in helping me break them in. I also think I'm gonna by something to put on my foot to protect the back of it.

Also I'm gonna go see if I can find a pair of cheaper running shoes that don't rub my foot raw. It's so hard to tell though when you try them on because you can't exactly run around with them. I don't think I'll be able to make it to week 9 before the race now that I'm calculating. Week 4 is killing me and I only have one day left I think I'm gonna do it an extra time before even attempting time.

Yesterday I didn't get a chance to run so I had a two day break but I think it was good because today I did not get a stomach cramp. I did my last day of week 3. I was thinking of doing one more day on Friday but I realize now I'm running against a deadline and if I want to make my goal I have to try to at least push myself a bit more.

Tomorrow I am definitely getting running shoes since it's my day off. Sadly they're not going to be very cheap.

Today I did Week 3 again. I think I would have been fine but about halfway through the workout I got a really bad side cramp on my right side. This happened in the same exact spot about 2 weeks ago. I don't know what causes it or how to stop it but it was so painful I couldn't even run the last stretch I was supposed to. I mean I forced myself to run the 2 mins and just walk the rest.

Tomorrow I am definitely not running and after talking to my dad I know I need shoes with a lot more support. I just wish I knew what the hell was causing my oblique to cramp up in that same spot. It got me worried that on race day it will do it again and I won't finish in a time that I want.

I went running and decided to bump up the run to W3D1. So the running time was a span of three minutes instead of just 90 seconds. It actually was a bit more challenging than I had thought it'd be, but it wasn't too bad. I wanted to run tomorrow but I know I should definitely let my muscles rest. I am going to stick with W3 for now since I am technically on schedule and I really don't want to over do it.

I realized today though I definitely need actual running shoes especially so I can break them in on time. I'm still debating though if I will really be able to do the 5k in a reasonable amount of time but I don't want to discourage myself. I am just going to try and think positive.

Day 2

Yesterday I did my second day of W2 for the 5k run. Now I know I was probably supposed to take a break but last run I didn't feel it at all. This run I felt good and felt like I did much better. Now my legs feel a little sore in some places so today I made sure I took a rest. Tomorrow I won't have time to run so I will get a nice two day break. Friday I plan on running and I think I'm going to bump up to the 3rd Week's pace. I don't want to over do it however my deadline is Labor Day and I need to make up time and I know I can run comfortably for about 10 minutes straight, distance is more my issue. Next week I will probably stay at week 3 since I'm making up for my lost time now.

I still need to get a new pair of running shoes now so I can break them in. My only other concern at this point is getting shin splints. I haven't had them in years and hopefully I can prevent them now.

Today it's already thundering and cloudy and it's only 1 p.m. I plan on officially starting my training for the 5k today. Now it's only supposed to be 3 days a week but I feel like that's not really enough so for the first few weeks I might do 4 especially this week since I have the week off.

My only concern is this is a 9 week program and the deadline for the race is 7 weeks away. I am skipping the Week 1 of this program because it is too much walking and I can run non-stop right now for at least 7 minutes so I think starting week 2 should be ok. I really hope I can push myself to be able to do 5k almost non-stop or at least get a pretty decent time. But also I do not want to over do it. I've downloaded a free podcast which tells you when to walk/run and stop. I only dislike it because the music kinda sucks and there's no way for me to replace it with my own. I was even debating taking TWO ipods and just playing one with music I like in one ear...but I realized I was just asking for trouble. Today is going to be my first day though of running a total 20 minutes. I mean I will be walking when it says to, but usually my max time is about 15 and that was when I was starting out and trying to get faster. Now I see I need to work on my endurance and then worry about speed.

I'm really nervous about this though. I would like to finish so I can join my friends...despite the fact they're doing an 8 mile run that day. But everyone has to start somewhere right?
