Dear Yuletide Writer
Oct. 21st, 2018 04:47Welcome to my journal. Glad you've come. Have a chair, sit down, enjoy the scenery. I've tried not to be too difficult in my requests, but it's hard to tell sometimes.
I'm very easy to write for, I promise. I like canon and backstory/future fic (especially the weird obscure bits, as you can tell by my requests), snark and witty banter, capers and proper adventures and characterization pieces. I'd rather not have anything above PG-13 (horror or smut)- though I don't mind shipping (het/femslash/slash are all fine, incestuous pairings not so much). I'm not really in this for the smut and I'd prefer that all of the characters stayed alive.
As you may guess by my choice of fandoms and characters, I am fond of cheesy plots, snark and witty banter, crossovers and amazing adventures. Feel free to take advantage of this.
Beta-readers are your friends - please do check for grammar, spelling and at least a vague attempt at historical accuracy.

Doctor Who: Eighth Doctor Adventures - Various Authors
Sarah Jane Smith (EDA)
From the character I've chosen, you may be able to tell that I'm focusing on Interference books 1 & 2. I have a love/hate relationship with them because there's so much interesting stuff in them and so much that makes me go WTF and sometimes it's the same things.
My original prompt thought was "what happens when Sarah takes Sam in" after book one, but I'd also be interested in such prompts as "did Sarah meet the Eighth Doctor again before or after?", "why was she pulled into that temporal space with him?", "how did the events on Dust affect her relationship with the Doctor?", "did she remember Dust after the timeline was restored?" "something something Time War?" "did Sarah cross paths with Faction Paradox again?" "what's going on with Iris Wildthyme being UNIT's scientific advisor?" or surprise me with something I haven't thought of tied to the events of Interference.
Feel free pull in any of the other characters listed, or to bring in any of Sarah's other companions (Brendan, Josh & Nat, the SJA kids). You can assume I'm familiar with any Doctor Who related canon. If you're looking to pick this up, the two books are long out of print and somewhat expensive online, but may be available via alternate means.
Morgan Swift Series - Various Authors
Morgan Swift
Ah, the mysterious Sam. I think it's time Jenny and Sally met him (or her, I'm not picky). Awesome adventures. Crossovers welcome but not required. Or maybe flashback fic about Morgan's life before Coolidge High. Her summer of surfing/when she met Sting/that Colorado dig.
Morgan Swift was an impossibly awesome high school teacher/adventurer with a mysterious past (think female Indiana Jones/Mary Sue), Sally and Jenny were her two students who got involved in adventures with her and Sam was mentioned about once a book - a mysterious romance/possible tragedy in Morgan's past. Anyway, adventure, possible romance, mysterious Sam - my wants are simple.
These seem to be easily available used on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. This was a very short series from the 80s - 3 books by Martine Lesley, one by Susan Saunders (which I tend to ignore as it replaces Jenny and Sally with two bland twins and manages to make Morgan Swift bland as well) and two "Find Your Fate" (choose your own adventures) type books which were awful. Feel free to just focus on the Martine Lesley books and ignore the rest.
Gallifrey (Big Finish Audio)
Ace McShane (Gallifrey)
Ace McShane, Time Lord in training/CIA agent is one of my favorite things to come out of this series. Give me a glimpse of her training, her work with the rest of the Gallifrey mainstays, her life after Soldier Obscura (I've heard In Remembrance, so don't worry about spoilers). Feel free to include any of the other characters in the tagset, Narvin, or pull from anywhere in Doctor Who canon.
Soldier Obscura is one of the stories in the Gallifrey: Time War I set, In Remembrance is from the Class 2 box set (and as such is very optional), and Ace appears in a couple of the other recent Gallifrey sets. These are still available as digital downloads and possibly CDs (they're phasing the CDs out) from Big Finish
The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams (TV)
James "Grizzly" Adams
If you haven't seen this it's a rather gentle, feel-good, get-back-to-nature tv series from the '70s, progressive in a post-hippie fashion that feels both dated and ahead of its time. Or, more specifically, it's historical fiction (1850s) about a man who's accused of a crime he didn't commit and ends up living in the mountains, communing with nature, befriending a bear, a Native American (played by a Native American!) and a roving trader and occasionally running into historical figures of the time. Scenery prOn with a catastrophe or black and white problem that's almost always neatly solved by the end of the story (unless it's a two-parter). I loved it as a kid, and while I wince at some of the episodes now, revisiting it on DVD reminded me of why it was one of my favorite shows back then.
I know this is a long-shot, so I don't really have a specific prompt here beyond something similar to the original show.
There's a complete series box set available on Amazon.com. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be streaming anywhere.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo - Jill Twiss
Marlon Bundo, Wesley the Bunny
This one's for my bunnies, Peppermint and Wintergreen, who think the version of Marlon Bundo in this book is awesome (they're not as fond of his portrayal in that other book, but they'll grudgingly accept it as canon). Tell me more about Marlon Bundo and his husbun Wesley's life after their wedding, their friends, and maybe how they ignore or quash the stinkbug again.
Here's a pic, in case you feel like writing them into the story. Winter's shyer, but stubborn when he needs to be. Pepper's more adventurous and prone to get into places she shouldn't be. They're siblings from a rescue litter. Pepper's the one with more white fur on the right.

This is a relatively new picture book and should be available from your local retailers, the usual suspects, and possibly even your library (ours has it in the picture books with the other books about cute animals acting like humans).
Ethel Morton Series - Mabell S. C. Smith
Ethel Blue Morton, Ethel Brown Morton
I know people who love hundred year old vintage series and I know Yuletiders but somehow they rarely seem to be the same people, but maybe my description will enthrall you and you'll find the series on Project Gutenberg and write me fic.
The series starts with the Mortons going to Chautauqua, an educational event that is still around today, for the season, taking courses, getting involved and becoming friends with Dorothy Smith (who...spoiler...turns out to be their long lost cousin). The Mortons represented here are the two Ethel Mortons (cousins, distinguished throughout the books by their eye colors), Ethel Brown Morton's mother, brother Roger and sister Helen and their grandparents. The rest of the series involves their life in a New Jersey suburb with their friends in the "United Service Club".
So far so good. However be prepared for the action to just stop for pages and pages as one character explains to another character how to make or do something, or espouses an authorial opinion (such as when Roger gets a job and nothing is said about it and Helen gets upset that the family won't allow her to do the same - the author is clearly on Helen's side, but the situation is resolved in a way that skirts around the situation - proprieties must be observed). Highlights includes times when the author has two or more characters falling over each other contributing to the author's viewpoint, the advantages of asbestos in building, and some very intriguing building ideas that probably turned out to be not quite as practical as they sound (in Sweetbrier Lodge). That being said, about 2/3 of the information in these "lectures" is useful, intriguing, or both, with the rest being rather WTF. And I nearly forgot to tell you that if you download from Gutenberg, make sure you get the illustrated version. There are diagrams!
As the series goes on, the books overlap, focusing on whatever the theme of the book is rather than strict chronological progression (one focuses on holidays, one on building and decorating a new house, one on gardening, etc.) There are (not so) surprising coincidences (watch for more long lost relatives to show up), a memorable "broken leg to teach a lesson", the occasional trip with potted history/geography lesson, and so on. Plotting was not Mabell S. C. Smith's strong suit.
I really don't expect anyone to wade through these books just to write something for me, I really just wanted to write a fandom pimp post in the style of Yuletide. That being said, if you do decide to take the plunge, I'd love something in the style of the books, perhaps after the last volume where (spoilers), Ethel Blue's father remarries and she moves out of her cousin's house.
All six books in the series are available on Project Gutenberg.
Rough chronological order (see above) is as follows:
Ethel Morton at Chautauqua
Ethel Morton and the Christmas Ship
Ethel Morton's Holidays
Ethel Morton at Rose House
Ethel Morton's Enterprise
Ethel Morton at Sweetbrier Lodge
