professional bad example

ugh i swear, if i get back to work this evening and find that i'm scheduled for commissioning stuff... it technically already would've been my turn this month, except obviously i wasn't there because holiday, and i don't know whether they're just going to have me do it now or skip it entirely and not have me do it until another two months in the future. i have cramps, my back hurts, i don't want to spent eight hours running around like a man on fire getting enough shit for two or three production cells ready, just put me in the cell and let me be in charge of testing maybe, that's actually really relaxing if everything goes right. or jumpering, i actually like jumpering during night shifts, unlike basically everyone else...

also last night a co-worker had to leave work and go to the hospital because he was bitten by a raccoon in the store room.

the difference between fiction and reality is that people expect fiction to make sense. how did the fucking raccoon even get in there.

have to say though, one of the advantages of the department i now work in is that it's staffed almost exclusively by men. not only is there no pointless gossiping and giggling and drama pulled out of peoples' asses for the sheer sake of it, it's also perfectly acceptable and even normal to verbally snipe at each other all the time and nobody takes it as anything other than the joke it's intended to be! and when people do have real problems with one another they bloody well say so and don't wage some ridiculous war of passive aggression! most of the stuff about behavioural differences between men and women may be stereotypes, but stereotypes can still be self-fulfilling prophecies, and clearly most people alive today have been affected by them to some degree. despite what some seem to believe, breaking out of these things isn't going to be as easy as running around shouting "but look though, people aren't actually born this way!".

another sunday night, another utter inability to get to sleep.

seriously, what sadistic asshole decided that a backward rotating shift system was a good idea. isn't it kind of common fucking sense that it would be far easier to switch from getting up earlier to getting up later than the other way round. i start every single work week completely sleep-deprived and by the time i've settled into the new sleep pattern well enough to function properly, the week is over and i need to switch yet again. and trying to switch over the weekend? forcing myself to get up after getting only about half the amount of sleep i actually need so i can get to sleep at the time i'll have to during the next week and thereby completely ruining the day i'm supposed to be using to relax? ahaha yeah right.

what would be so difficult about just making the bloody shifts rotate forward.

ugh, morning shifts. i swear i'm incapable of getting anything done after them. you may have notice i haven't even posted anything this week yet! people who are all "but starting work early is great because it means you have the whole afternoon to yourself! :D" can go stuff it. i don't want the afternoon, i want the evening and early night, but noo, i have to go to bed when the evening's barely begun and get up when it's still night. honestly, who decided that night shifts should get bonuses and morning shift gets nothing, it's the latter that are inhumanly cruel.

(actually, under this particular shift system morning shifts start so early i do get night shift bonuses for the first half hour or so...)

almost just left for work an hour early, whoops. leaving a bit earlier to get a couple of extra minutes into my time account may be an idea (though not arriving half an hour early or more, like some people from other shift groups), but this would be overdoing it a bit.

relatedly, seriously, i celebrate inside my head every time we switch from 6 AM shifts to 2 PM and then 10 PM ones. i'm an extreme chronotype, no amount of insisting that most people are some sort of average changes the fact that you need extremes in order for an average to even exist in the first place, deal with it.
