How does this comm work

This comm is meant as a general meeting place for SW fandom on DW. “SW fandom” covers anything Star Wars related, whether it’s movies, TV shows, books, games, or LEGO sets.

We do weekly "chat corner" discussion posts, but you're welcome to post anything you'd like to share: rec lists, screenshots, watch-alongs, memes, serious discussions about GFFA politics, behind-the-scene news… if it’s Star Wars, it’s fair game.

Hi,

welcome to the weekly chat corner. Have anything SW-related to talk about? Here's your chance!

~ ~ ~

I've been thinking about Star Wars fanfic today, or writing thereof. I have a lot of WIPs (oh gods, so many), but I do like it when I get more than two people and a shoelace to read my fic and I realized... what do The Kids even read, these days?

So I went and looked. (On AO3, where else.)

Quick, can you guess?

In the "Star Wars - All Media Types" tag on AO3, there are 25,988 fics with update date between 2025-01-01 and today.

Ship categories

  1. F/M (9918)
  2. Gen (7677)
  3. M/M (6971)
  4. F/F (1791)
  5. Multi (1671)
  6. Other (932)

Oh whow. I did not expect so much F/M. Is that all Reylo?

Fandoms

  1. Star Wars - All Media Types (17881)
  2. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - All Media Types (7274)
  3. Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (4809)
  4. Star Wars Sequel Trilogy (2835)
  5. Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Cartoon) (2302)
  6. Star Wars Original Trilogy (2019)
  7. Andor (TV) (1555)
  8. Star Wars: Rebels (1408)
  9. Star Wars Legends - All Media Types (1229)
  10. The Mandalorian (TV) (1136)

The Bad Batch surprised me here!

Characters

  1. Obi-Wan Kenobi (6401)
  2. Anakin Skywalker (4851)
  3. Ahsoka Tano (2911)
  4. Luke Skywalker (2641)
  5. CT-7567 | Rex (2576)
  6. Leia Organa (2480)
  7. Padmé Amidala (2368)
  8. CC-2224 | Cody (2324)
  9. Rey (Star Wars) (1989)
  10. Ben Solo | Kylo Ren (1898)

I'm... surprised by how unsurprising this is? I think this is the same top 10 I'd get if I removed the time filter, which feels odd.

Relationships

  1. Padmé Amidala/Anakin Skywalker (1568)
  2. Rey/Ben Solo | Kylo Ren (1375)
  3. Obi-Wan Kenobi & Anakin Skywalker (1256)
  4. Obi-Wan Kenobi/Anakin Skywalker (1252)
  5. CC-2224 | Cody/Obi-Wan Kenobi (997)
  6. Anakin Skywalker & Ahsoka Tano (707)
  7. Rey/Ben Solo (558)
  8. Leia Organa/Han Solo (532)
  9. Kylo Ren/Rey (462)
  10. Obi-Wan Kenobi/Satine Kryze (367)

And finally,

Additional tags

  1. Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence (3208)
  2. Angst (2916)
  3. Hurt/Comfort (2741)
  4. Fluff (2421)
  5. Not Beta Read (1556)
  6. Slow Burn (1542)
  7. Alternate Universe - Modern Setting (1378)
  8. Canon-Typical Violence (1240)
  9. Emotional Hurt/Comfort (1125)
  10. Alternate Universe (1121)

...yeah, that tracks.

Some details and notes

The F/M ships

Are this:

  1. Rey/Ben Solo | Kylo Ren (1310)
  2. Padmé Amidala/Anakin Skywalker (1151)
  3. Rey/Ben Solo (538)
  4. Kylo Ren/Rey (446)
  5. Leia Organa/Han Solo (420)
  6. Obi-Wan Kenobi & Anakin Skywalker (377)
  7. Obi-Wan Kenobi/Satine Kryze (295)
  8. Cassian Andor/Jyn Erso (287)
  9. Anakin Skywalker & Ahsoka Tano (270)
  10. Kanan Jarrus/Hera Syndulla

...so, big on Reylo but not only, or even mostly Reylo? I wish AO3 had a way to mark main ships vs background ones, that would be so useful for this.

Fic included

AO3 doesn't have a way to differentiate between "updated" and "first-posted", which means these numbers might be skewed by long-running WIPs. Just out of curiosity, I filtered only completed fics with one chapter (i.e. one-shots) and got 989 works in these fandoms:

  1. Star Wars - All Media Types (685)
  2. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - All Media Types (293)
  3. Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (159)
  4. Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Cartoon) (101)
  5. Star Wars Original Trilogy (72)
  6. Star Wars Sequel Trilogy (68)
  7. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (TV) (46)
  8. The Mandalorian (TV) (40)
  9. Star Wars: Rebels (38)
  10. Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order Series (Video Games) (32)

The Bad Batch higher, some Skeleton Crew, some JFO, but generally very similar. I guess we're pretty set on the Prequel era, huh.

...um. This got a bit more involved than an interesting bit of stats I wanted to entertain you with. Enjoy, I guess!

Hi!

Welcome to the first chat corner of 2026. How have you been? Any special SW-related plans for this year? I'm still thinking over which fandom exchanges I want to sign up for...

EDIT: Surprise! Your inattentive ass of a mod has finally noticed a Dreamwidth bug/feature is eating her posts! *facepalm* As it turns out, if you try to make a post that has the same title and content as a previous one, DW thinks it's the same post, and will just... not create a new post when you click "publish".

Anti-spam feature, maybe?

Anyway, sorry about that! Feel free to laugh on my account.

Hi everyone,

sorry for the month of radio silence. I had an accident riding my scooter (the Vespa kind, not the "two wheels and a stick" kind) and broke my collar bone. Oops.

Modern medicine is a beautiful thing so I'm not stuck in a cast, but it's still been An Experience and I didn't really have enough spare spoons to keep up with the comm.

BUT, I'm definitely fine enough by now to copy-paste a post into DW, so I'm going to start making at least free-for-all chat corner posts every Monday again. We're not dead yet! Come and share your SW thoughts/feels if you have any :)

Hi!

The topic for this week is "The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown", a tie-in young-adult novel for the show Acolyte that focuses on two of the side-characters, padawans Jecki and Yord. It came out in July of this year.

Have any of you read it - and would you recommend it? Are you interested - and why?

(Feel free to discuss the Acolyte show as well; we've already talked about it before, but maybe you have some new thoughts?)

Hi!

This is the 200th themed chat corner of this community!!!

(...unless I miscalculated somewhere, which, lets be real, has a high possibility. Erm.)

I'm looking at the post I made for the 100th chat corner, and something that I wrote there: "That’s a number with about two more places than what I’d assumed this thing would survive when I started." I don't know how about you, but I'm pretty impressed that we're still here!

Now, it might be because this thing has gotten buried too deep under my skin, and I'll be here for the next decade, whether anyone comes and talks or not...

BUT, you do come! And you do talk! Thank you all for that, and I hope it's fun, or enriching, or maybe just rewarding in some way. :)

No prompt this week, but I'd love to know if there is some discussion, or comment, or a Dreamwars-related moment that stayed with you as a good memory. Or perhaps, something you'd like to experience here, realistic or not. I'm curious!

Hi!

This week, our topic is "relationships". Familial, platonic, romantic, sexual, or maybe something unknowable in-between? Do you have a specific relationship you keep coming back to? A specific type of relationship that you love to read or write - or perhaps one that you never see in SW and would love to?

Or, here, lets have a few silly AU prompts!

  1. Who is whose long-lost sibling?
  2. Who ends up being neighbors with whom?
  3. Who is whose not-so-amicably-divorced ex?
  4. Who is whose secret booty call?
  5. Who discovers they're members of the same polycule - and through whom?

Hi!

Is it the time again? We're back in the (chronological) beginning, and our topic for this week is Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

How are we feeling about this one? If you've been here for the previous post, have you changed your mind in any way? Or, you haven't thought about the movie at all?

As I see it, TPM is at its core a movie for children. So, I'm curious: if you wanted to introduce a child to the Star Wars universe (your kid, a cousin, a nibling), which piece would you start with? One of the movies, a show, something different?

Hi!

it's Legends week again, and our discussion topic is the novel https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Dawn_of_the_Jedi:_Into_the_Void, a 2013 release that explores the Jedi Order before it became the Jedi Order.

(You might have seen "Je'daii" mentioned in fanfic, this book and the Dawn of the Jedi comic series is where that's from.)

Have you read it, and would you recommend it? If you haven't, are you interested?

In case you don't have anything to say about it: are you interested in the ancient past of the Star Wars universe, or is that something you don't care about? If you could choose the era where the next SW movie will be set, what would you chose, and why?

Hi!

this week I'm again fishing through the timeline of canon media, and I bring you Grogu, Cutest in the Galaxy, which is... a series of animations published on Instagram??

Huh. I see the grand tradition of Star Wars being Everywhere(TM) is going strong.

Has anyone of you seen this? Do you follow any official SW social media? Do you follow any official SW sources in general? Or maybe, how do you come upon SW news, like new media being announced (or cancelled), actors being cast, and so on?
