Add to Memories Tell Someone

Hi, and welcome to [community profile] dreamchasers! This is our sticky post! (I hope.)

We originally created [community profile] dreamchasers while Dreamwidth was still in closed beta. It's hard to find your friends if you're moving from one service to another, or even just adding another service to your list (check out LiveJournal Friends on Dreamwidth, an awesome utility that will fetch a list of your LiveJournal friends, and check to see if Dreamwidth accounts with the same names exist. For LiveJournal only, alas), and it's sometimes hard to make new ones. So we thought of [community profile] dreamchasers as a kind of community bulletin board where people could ask questions and leave messages.

DISCLAIMER: [community profile] dreamchasers is not an official Dreamwidth community. We are not affiliated with the Management. For that, there's [site community profile] dw_news. As you can see from this entry, as a matter of fact: official comms have the perky red "swirlydoo" (this is a technical term guys!) while the non-official ones get the pretty green globe.

The only posting guideline we have is that posts and comments in [community profile] dreamchasers should be "person to person" -- i.e., please feel free to ask any question about anything Dreamwidth (and some things that aren’t), but any promo-ing should be about individual journals.

Want to promote a community or check some out? There's: [site community profile] dw_community_promo

Interested in exploring the wonderful world of available feeds or talking about the one you just made? Allow me to introduce [site community profile] dw_feed_promo

Have ideas on how to make Dreamwidth more awesome? There's a comm for that! [site community profile] dw_suggestions

And of course you can always follow Dreamwidth on Twitter!

'Nuff Said!

Hello all! I'm new to Dreamwidth, but not to journaling. This is the year that I plan on staying in one spot and blogging more than once in a blue moon. I'm twenty eight, and I am involved in some fandoms being; Hercules; The Legendary Journeys, Xena:Warrior Princess, That 70's show, Wicca/Pagan magic, writing, fan fiction, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, vintage clothes, Cher, Courtney Love/Hole, Sid and Nancy, roleplaying games, The Labyrinth movie and more. I'm also looking for new friends on here. I update and comment back, so let's get to know one another!

xoxo, Jess

is a bit empty.

So I would like to meet, maybe even read with people that share some of my interests.

My name is Kristin or Irish Dragon as I am on both LJ and DW.  I post tarot, news, politics, photography, crafts, promotions I'm doing, life, etc.

I would like to have some friends that don't look at politics as the beginning and end of friendships.  My views may not be the same as yours, but I believe that common ground on some issues is a good bonding.  If I get to negative or frustrated b/c of the news or politics you have free rain to swat my head and say "snap out of it"

Not to scare you off or anything.

I'm in my mid 30s live in MN enjoy traveling, couchsurfing, postcrossing, walking, photography, learned the love of sleep going to school and working FT, genealogy, etc.

Comment or i don know add...

Hi, everyone. I'm new to Dreamwidth, as the title would suggest. I'm here because I needed a place to express myself that wasn't Tumblr or LJ.

What shall I say? I'm not quite sure what to think about Dreamwidth or how exactly to get started. I'm not in fandoms, but I certainly have my interests. I'm interested in Arab culture, Lebanon, Palestine, culture in general, traveling, literature, thinking, living abroad (aspiring ESL teacher), writing, philosophy, anything beautiful, and I have a blossoming interest in Buddhism.

In my journal, I'll probably just write. It's as simple as that.

As for more things about me, I'm a college sophomore with a French/Education double major. I'm going on to get my Master's in TESL/TEFL. I'm heading to Chile in the winter, possibly again in the summer, and then I'll be in Lyon (France) for the following school year. My life should be somewhat exciting for awhile.

I read all the time. Add me if you love books.

If you've seen this before it's 'cause I have copy and paste buttons and know how to use 'em - I've just migrated from LJ, so I'm doing ye olde new-friend trawl so I can stop feeling like a loser ...

I'm Torrie and I'm a journalist/ tv producer in my ... ugh, late twenties. I was hoping I'd be at least 32 before I'd have to stop saying mid-twenties, but I'm feeling honest today.

I'm pretty easy-going when it comes to getting to getting on with people - it's just organising my personal life that turns me into a big mess. I fill my blog with random thoughts, work highs and lows and anything that flitters through my mind. Can't say I didn't warn you.

I keep my blog friends-only so that I can be more open about work and stuff, but I'm definitely keen to add some people ... :)

Things I like - open-minded people, keeping up to speed with what's going on in the world, crime dramas on telly, people who make me laugh, sunshine, driving with nowhere to go and lots of other random things. Randomness is good.

Hi
I just recently made the migration from livejournal and am looking to make some new friends.

I love Farscape, BSG both old and the reimagined version, HP - especially the slytherin quidditch team and lots of other fangirly things. I don't post much, since I'm lazy and all that, but I am working on rectifying that. I am also a writer - mostly speculative romance and am working on getting my second novel published.

You can find out more in my user info, I swear I used up every slot available for interests because mine are wide and varied.

Looking forward to making some new friends!

Hey
Hey, I've only recently joined here from livejournal Lizzie_1990 and think in order to give this site a proper go I should try and get some more friends over here.

I'm Liz, a 19 year old student from Manchester, UK. I'm a typical girly girl love shopping, gossiping, going out, theatre particularly musicals, and getting dressed up. But also a bit of a geek as I love history, philosophy, computers, genaology, drawing, writing and travelling.

So if you want to add me go right ahead or just comment here, and I'll add you back :)

Hello! I've had this journal for almost a year but have just gotten around to using it. I would love some new friends :)

I am quite an old soul. I adore War History, Literature, Music, Summertime, Sports, Tea, 1960s, Biographies, Harry Potter, The History Boys, Janis Joplin, Poetry, Lauren Bacall, Flappers & Philosophers and Silent Films.

I am very big into fansites, I own: Carey-Mulligan.com and CateBlanchettFan.com just to name a few.

I hope to meet some new people and make friends :)

In an attempt to find some new and active friends here at Dreamwidth I thought I'd make a little "friend me please?" post over here.

I am Siobhan, female, 21 years old. I live in England and in September I am going to train as a Secondary school teacher.
I am taken but secretly insecure. I like pretty things, good books and films. I have two pet ratties. I love meeting new people and making new friends.

Leave me a comment here if you're interested in perhaps getting to know me and reading my journal and I will add you to my access list.

Happy Easter everyone!

Hi all. I'm new here on Dreamwidth and this is my first post. I came here when someone over at Livejournal recommended this site, so I decided to give it a try. Was also provided a link to this community as a way to let myself be known.

Here's what you need to know about me. I'm from Canada and I don't seem to have any specifics when enjoying entertainment. Though I notice I have a tendency to like actors who also happen to be Canadian too. This is purely coincidental though... I think. I have the exact same user name over at LJ, so it shouldn't be too hard to find me over there if you're curious what I write. I often use my journal for story purposes and mainly to post fanfiction in general. I have a "if you want to know, just ask" approach to any questions concerning my interests. Like anyone else, I typically write stories about things I like regardless if no one else knows who or what it's about. I love crossovers by the way.

Also does anyone know where to find beta readers? I have some stories coming up and am in need of a beta reader(s). I left a notice over at LJ, but no one answered.

...and while I'm spamming you, let me recommend: [personal profile] liv's Non-Fannish Friending Meme, which she talks about here, saying [in part]: "If you would like find some new, interesting people to read, or make new friends, or just help highlight how much cool stuff there is on DW, please comment to this post." Comment to her post, boost the signal, or start a Non-Fannish-New-People-To-Add-To-Your-Reading-Circle-Meme of your own!

23 March 2010 @ 07:49 am
I don't think I've seen this pimped mentioned here [if it has been, apologies!], but this is a really painless meme that's pretty cool. And it's something we can do here in [community profile] dreamchasers, and in our own journals too!

Here's the plan: every Friday, let's recommend some people and/or communities to follow on Dreamwidth. That's it. No complicated rules, no "pass this on to 7.328 friends or your cat will die". Just introduce us to some new things to read.

23 March 2010 @ 11:44 am
I was just thinking that so many people were talking about meeting new people over here at Dreamwidth (and LJ for that matter) that I figured I could use my shoes community to post a "friending" -meme or rather a "Hi, let's find new people to add to my circle"-meme. (it's a got bigger cirle of people reading it than my personal one ergo the reason)

And then I thought that maybe it'd be okay to post about this over here. You don't have to be a part of the community to comment, just have a Dreamwidth account. You don't have to like shoes, people commenting have various interests, ages and gender and maybe you'll find someone interesting to add to your circle.

I think this is okay according to the rules you guys, if it's not I'm really sorry and I won't do it again.

Was yohjideranged and teamromy on LJ and IJ, but presence is here more and more. If you were on LJ or IJ and have changed your handle, please look this journal up! The journal is a little light on the reading list.

So, now looking for very open-minded, accepting, and low drama/wank types to read add to ye old journal.

A little run down on this here account:

- Extremely busy non-traditional university student studying history/anthropology with a concentration in East Asian culture.
- In the application process of trying to study in Japan this coming fall. *bites nails*
- Vice President of the anthropological sciences club and tutor for history and research assistant for water rights.
- Looking forward to an archaeological dig this summer.
- Owned by four pampered cats
- In a committed relationship (12+ years long and strong) and would be married if it were legal.
- Interested in many types and genres of music - so eclectic that the collection is getting a bit out of hand - currently listening to everything from The Cruxshadows to Within Temptation to Mozart to Alice Cooper to Evil Nine to Breaking Benjamin to Pink and Lady Gaga.
- Wide variety of hobbies and interests, just wish there was more time for them all.
- Diagnosed with DID in mid-80s when it was still known by a different name.
- Read books like they are going out of style - primarily fiction, but often non-fiction due to schooling.
- Participating in Project 365 (we'll see if success shall be had!)
- Television: things like Dr. Who, Torchwood, Ghost Hunters, Destination Truth, occasional Food Network, miscellaneous anime, Family Guy, Robot Chicken and other randomness
- Positive attitude, always trying to look on the bright-side and don't buy into wankity wank wank.

Entries will consist of a lot of the above and more.

So, if this sounds like something you would like to read about, add the journal on! We'd love to have you on board.

New York, New York, it's a toddling town -- but there's life north of Manhattan.

I looked all over Dreamwidth, and I couldn't find any "regional interest" comms that focused on the Hudson Valley Region. So I created [community profile] hudson_valley because there's all sorts of things here like the Sterling Forest RenFaire, and Clearwater, and all of our local colleges: Bard, Vassar, Marist, and SUNY New Paltz.

Connect up here if you're in a New York State of mind...

So you're on Dreamwidth and you want to say something. Maybe you have a suggestion for something you'd like to see. Maybe you have a problem and need help. Maybe you just want to say: "Hey this is dudefully awesome," or ask when something's going to go live. Here's a non-inclusive list of where to go and what to do.

SUPPORT

Got a problem? Go here: http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/ On this page you'll see the list of Known Issues (things that don't work right at the moment but are going to be fixed), a Search Menu for the FAQs -- including a list of the top Frequently Asked Questions -- and a box (scroll down to the bottom) where you can open a Support request. The Dreamwidth Support Staff is primarily made up of volunteers -- if you want to volunteer, follow the link to the Support Board and take a look around, or drop in to [site community profile] dw_volunteers or [site community profile] dw_support_training.

SUGGESTIONS

Got an idea you'd like to see used on Dreamwidth? Or would you just like to see what ideas other people have? Go to: [site community profile] dw_suggestions. You can't post directly to the community (though you can reply to entries). If you have a suggestion, http://www.dreamwidth.org/site/suggest will take you to a form where you can submit it. Once you hit send, your suggestion will go into the modqueue, and if it hasn't been submitted before (which is a good reason to search the community -- http://www.dreamwidth.org/search?user=dw_suggestions -- before making a suggestion) it will be posted. Once it's posted, anyone who wants to can comment on it, discuss it, and even vote on it, since the posted entry will include a poll. High scores and positive comments don't guarantee Dreamwidth will use the idea, but they'll help [staff profile] mark and [staff profile] denise figure out how popular an idea is.

GENERAL COMMENTS

You may wonder who these people are and what they're doing here. http://www.dreamwidth.org/site/staff will tell you. Here you can find information about [staff profile] mark and [staff profile] denise and the other behind-the-icon people, as well as links to some of Dreamwidth's official comms. Hi everyone. My name is Ashley, and I live in [community profile] virginia. I'm 19 and a single mother, working hard to get my first apartment soon. I have a lot of varied interests, but I love Harry Potter and I still "party" sometimes if I get the grandmother to babysit for the night. I like my martinis shaken, not stirred. I love people who can reccomend good books. Also I'd love people who know a little bit about baking/cooking... I really know absolutely nothing about either, my mom was never good at it and my experience about ends at ramen noodles and microwave pizzas. But I'd really like to learn before my daughter gets older so that I can cook yummy things and special desserts for her and not have them burnt and disfigured. (I really am clueless so I'd like someone who literally understands that I'd ask, when they say grease a pan, how much of a layer of butter do I need on it?!) Anyway, I also like political humor but I'm a far left liberal. That's all I can really think of for now. I'm not picky, I just want literate friends to have interesting discussions with.

I think we need a Random Thread here. This is it.

Our Random Fact Of The Entry (and Proof I Have Not Been Reading The News Posts) is:

You can make sticky posts in communities, even though you can't date stuff out of order! (Who knew?)

All you have to do is:

1. Make your post.

2. Find its URL.

3. Go to http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/?cat=display

4. Put the URL in the last box.

It's like magic!....
