small town, ugh
( Just not going to mention the commune, OK? )
alkgj;la i getchu
[cocking an eyebrow:] Everyone seems in a fairly good mood, though.
consistent cr with yours. my dreeeaaam
( He's only been on one cruise. Wasn't quite for him. It was his friend, Lexi's idea. R.I.P. Lexi. )
Do we have any other choice? When it's dangerous or, or, uncomfortable, then we're realistic about our surroundings. ( At least he is. ) Other things happen, too. There was a month we were all alternate versions of ourselves spending a summer at Saltburnt. Same names, but very different backgrounds.
the ideal
Eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow you may die. [a solemn nod.] Makes sense. [a sideways glance --] That sounds -- disorienting. Who were you?
Re: the ideal
( But he's making him never want to get on a cruise again. )
I prefer, find the moments when you can get them and don't live your life in fear of the unknown. ( Or the house. ) I was the heir to a vineyard with my brother. Our father had just died. Pretty cold businessman. And Tim was my son.

[cruises are unnecessary and expensive and seasickness is the worst.
corry listens quietly, nodding, then quirks both eyebrows up at tim's name.] Tim Laughlin?
no subject
( If there's anything else beyond here and the commune. )
Yes, that Tim. And he never lets me forget it. Calls me Papa.
( He actually hates it. He also hates that feels a little responsible for him. )

[nevermind that there's no beaches here, aside from the lake, which isn't really the turquoise-waters and shimmery-sands experience he has in mind.
corry makes the mistake of taking a sip of his drink when stefan says that, and ends up snorting it up his nose, because -- well. talking to the not!father of someone you more-or-less despoiled under contested circumstances wasn't exactly on his bingo card for the night.
coughing, wiping his mouth:] That's -- yeah. Sounds like him.
no subject
( on the run, but, semantics. stefan lets the snort and laughter get out of his system. )
He's got his convictions, that's for sure. A little self righteous for my taste, but he means well.
no subject
[okay, he's fine now, he's composed.]
Wasn't too self-righteous when I met him, but that was, ah. Unique circumstances. [ones that have him firmly pegged as public enemy #1 for one hawkins fuller.]
no subject
( By all mean, ask more. )
Really? He didn't lead with his pious foot?
no subject
Ah, not exactly. [a little flustered, in spite of things --] The auctions, you remember those? I sort of...won a night with him.
no subject
( Not fair to Valerie who was definitely a Caroline-substitute. )
Oh. Well. I was lucky enough to not bid or be bid on.
no subject
[for the first time, corry looks a touch discomforted.]
Aha. Well, I was under the mistaken impression that everything was above-board, so. It was quite a different experience for me.
no subject
( he catches that, but he won't mention it. )
You discovered the compulsion aspect. Some activities or events here are not optional and they blur the consent line. Or, cross it completely. I hope your first wasn't too much.
no subject
[quiet, sideways -- searches for answers like that rarely, if ever, pan out, in corry's experience.]
I did, yes. I enjoyed myself thoroughly, until I heard the truth of things the next morning. Sort of soured the experience retroactively.
no subject
( but, it was all worth it in the end. kind of. )
It would. But, Tim won't take it personally. I'm sure he also enjoyed himself.
no subject
[still, stefan seems -- unbothered by it, which is always a good sign. corry pauses to set aside his glass, fold his hands in his lap.]
He didn't. Hawk did. Is that normal?
no subject
( Almost. More problems. )
Hawk and Tim have a deep-running, complicated dynamic. And, recently, I think have been reconciling after a few months being apart. It's definitely not personal.

They've been here a while, from what I hear. Have you?
no subject
Not as long as they have. I've been here since last May. ...Maybe April. ( The months blur. ) But, they've been here from the beginning.

( Though, he's in a throuple that might blow some people's minds from his world. )
