Apparently Fallen London, and some people I RP with, are good for me. It's just the tiniest morsel of a snippet, but it's ending an indescribably long period of Not Writing. Brought into existence by what I read of Hallowmas and other festivities that entail wearing disguises. It's a start.

Context-ish intro: I'm playing daily and with addictive fervour, my character has gotten some background and a sister via my registering a second account, I'm subscribing with both and buying Fate, AND I am roleplaying tentatively with a few other players who are, with the exception of aris_tgd, complete unknowns to me. I am also preparing a private event, intending to use the game's messaging and gifting system in slightly unorthodox ways to throw a housewarming party with the other players because my character recently acquired fancy lodgings at the Brass Embassy. I decided against the "just RP in a forum" route because that would give me anxiety and also provide zero tangible rewards in-game. I've been messaging back and forth with people. One of them - let's call them Rob - plays as a Rubbery Man, the game's intelligent but mostly unintelligible and socially awkward Squid People. Also slimy. Very slimy. Well-dressed, though. Most people dislike Rubbery Men, and devils in particular hate them. Devils live at the Brass Embassy. Where my housewarming party is. Because I live there now.

So I'm messaging Rob about the party and I'm basically like, look I know your species is disliked by most people and iirc especially by devils. But you'll get an invitation anyway, and if you don't want to have your character go, just decline. You'll get a gift either way.

Today Rob writes back the following:

"Dear Sirsh, youur lettersh arriveshd a bit latesh- I sinsherely appologishe for sthat. Regardshing sthe invitathionwurbl I fearsh devilsh show a shertain dishapproval of my kindsh. Perhapsh using sthe backwurbl-entrashe and shome dishguishe could helpsh. Inshide sthe lettersh you will findsh *the rest of the letter is covered in some lemon-scented slime. A small glass bottle is wrapped inside the letter. Perhaps thats the source of this mess?*"

I laughed for two minutes straight, in equal parts because it was a delightful letter and because we're doomed. I'm going to attempt to smuggle a Rubbery Man into the Embassy. In a disguise. Like in an awful sitcom. I'm thinking Tomb Colonist (the game's bandaged undead Mummy equivalent) with water in his lungs and a speech impediment. I'll have to serve tiny blind fish. My other guests will be confused and possibly offended, but I'm hoping they'll be too polite to say anything. They'll totally know what's up. How can the devils not know what's up? They're really quite smart. (Unlike Rubbery Men. Or myself.) Let's say they find out. What if I bribe them and say we're going to murder Rob later? He doesn't have to stay for long, I could take him into the bathroom after an hour and pretend to club him *cue gurgling shreak*, then carry him out the back entrance towards where the dumpster is. We can do this. Can we do this? I don't know if we can do this. Oh my God.

Have started playing Fallen London again, hopefully for good this time. (I'm feeling kind of eager to go into the shadowy "criminal mastermind" direction which is probably a good sign, compared to earlier attempts where I was stumbling around aimlessly.)

also every time i post and don't mention the elephant in the room i feel bad, like i'm not pulling my weight or look like i didn't care, but on the other hand i don't know if i CAN write about it and do it justice, or write anything at all besides "INTERNAL SCREAMING" fifty times. 2017 was supposed to be the year where i'm cozy in my new flat, learning at least one new language, visit friends in the UK, try to prepare for the surgery i still need, and as a topic of interest soak up all kinds of information on the AIDS crisis and the trauma it brought (still brings) to the LGBT community. what it wasn't supposed to be is a rollercoaster on fire and looking over to see that other people's rollercoaster is also up in flames and on top of that is filled with poop (burning poop) and i can't even reach over and pull them out. ok, shitty metaphor, i am sorry.
