Happy New Year! ๐ŸŽ‰ Hope you all had an enjoyable holiday, and that 2026 is a kinder year to you than the last.

We're kicking off the new year right away with some lifestyle changes that will benefit us physically, mentally, and financially. First day is always the most motivating, of course, but I hope we can keep up the enthusiasm. I desperately need better routines for every aspect of my health, and it's been nice to plan things out.

First thing I did is log out of my main Bsky account to take a break from it. It wasn't doing me many favors at the moment—just stressing me out a lot on a near-daily basis. Art and writing accounts are still logged in, though, since I don't follow as many people on those and can take it in more bite-sized pieces. Which helps the other issue I was having, which was mindlessly scrolling in an effort to catch up with my feed. Following too many people really leads to a feed that sometimes I just need a break from.

We're still waiting to hear back from the vet about what's going on with our cockatiel, Lacie, from her health scare a couple of weeks ago. I thought about calling yesterday, but decided against it given it was still sort of a holiday. We should call tomorrow, though, and see what's going on. At least she's been relatively "well", but the issues haven't gone away. I don't want to just wait for things to get worse. Especially after so many people were so generous with the GFM.

Anyway, fingers crossed I can actually get myself going with art stuff. A friend and I are going to try doing voice chats while working on art stuff to see if that helps, so at the very least I'm excited for that! I did get new art supplies with the Michaels gift card my spouse got me for Christmas—namely watercolors, some watercolor paper, and FIVE Copic markers, which only ended up being that many because they had a Buy 3 Get 2 Free sale going on. If that happens every year, that's probably how I'll end up buying new Copics. Because buying them normally is just a smidge too expensive. ๐Ÿ˜… I love the markers, but I wish there was any way we could get them for the price they are in Japan. ¥462 per is a lot more appealing than CND $8.99. But alas, import fees. And I've tried Ohuhu alcohol markers—they're okay, but they feel scratchier than Copics and I'm not wild about them. Maybe I should give them another try, but I definitely know their colorless blender is worse.

I've been playing so much Lunacid lately, which has been an extremely cool game and so much more fun than I thought it would be. But now that there's an English translation patch for the PCE CD version of Emerald Dragon, I am FIGHTING myself to finish Lunacid before starting that. I've been waiting so many years to play that version in English, and now it's actually here! Loaded up on my Vita and ready to go! But I'm SO close to the end of Lunacid, it would feel wrong if I didn't finish that first!

Well. Speaking of gaming, next post should be my annual game log for 2025, which I'm planning on doing a little differently than before, so I'm excited for it!

Distracting myself from my stomach grumbling while I wait for dinner with an entry, because music can only distract me so much.

... and then right after writing that line, I got up and went to clean the bathroom sink. ¯\_(ใƒ„)_/¯

Christmas is just a few days away and I still haven't wrapped any of the presents my spouse and I have gotten for family. I enjoy wrapping presents so I told him I wouldn't mind doing most of them. But I keep getting distracted, so here we are on the 22nd of December and it's just a couple of large bags full of gifts.

We did have a family gathering yesterday, for my spouse's grandma and two of my brother-in-law's girls. They'll be seeing their dads on Christmas day, so we wanted to get together before then. We had gotten the girls My Melody stuff, not knowing what they were into other than "cute things". Though they were blind box things, and the one we'd gotten for the younger of the two girls was either My Melody or Kuromi in the box. After she unwrapped it, she came up to my spouse and I and said, "Thank you, I love My Melody! :)" I'm sitting there thinking, oh please let it be My Melody in that box then. And thankfully it was, and she carried it around with her the rest of the gathering. It was so cute, and I can't believe my spouse and I guessed perfectly! Now that I know she loves My Melody though, I'll keep an eye out for stuff for her anytime I go to Miniso. They definitely have no shortage of Sanrio stuff there.

I feel bad that I was only able to get gifts for family members this year. I didn't have the spare money to get gifts for a single friend. โ•ฏ๏ธฟโ•ฐ I'm literally tapped out. Maybe in January I can get some friends some discounted games on Steam, but I wish I could get them tangible things. (Also, it doesn't help that I also get vibes from a couple of friends that they're disappointed that I don't have anything for them... That just makes me feel even worse, but also it disappoints me in turn that they're expectant?)

Anyway, my mother-in-law has done an amazing job of making the Christmas season feel festive. This is probably the nicest I've felt about it in years, and I'm looking forward to the gathering on Thursday. I'm still anxious around so much "new" family, but at least I'm having a good time.

I am really missing my family back home though. (๏ผ›′โŒ’`) My sister says my parents have been acting a little off, likely since this is the first Christmas without me there. I'm sure they'll still have a nice time, and I'll be sure to call them. But I do wish I could give them hugs.

Recently, I was hit by a sudden desire to start going through action games that have been on my radar for years but have never played, and I've laser-focused the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in particular. So here's a quick breakdown of everything I've played in the past month and a half. (And here's hoping this new "table" format doesn't completely break, otherwise I'll have to figure something else out. Do let me know if it looks broken or janky for you, though. I'm not married to it and will swiftly kick it to the curb if it's inconsistent.)

And for a quick refresher on what my star ratings mean;
5โ˜… Favourite | 4โ˜… Loved | 3โ˜… Liked | 2โ˜… Indifferent | 1โ˜… Disliked

Alisia Dragoon // ใ‚ขใƒชใ‚ทใ‚ขใƒ‰ใƒฉใ‚ฐใƒผใƒณ
Alisia Dragoon | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†
Disappointed that it took me so many years to actually play through this, considering it'd been on my radar for actual decades. Cool action platformer with a great visual style and a soundtrack to match.
Arcus Odyssey // ใ‚ขใƒผใ‚ฏใ‚นใƒปใ‚ชใƒ‡ใƒƒใ‚ปใ‚ค
Arcus Odyssey | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†
This one was a little rough, but probably would have been better with a second player. Loved the art style and music, and for the most part had a fun time going through it, despite a few annoying sections.
Gleylancer // ใ‚ฐใƒฌใ‚คใƒฉใƒณใ‚ตใƒผ
Gley Lancer | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†
Visually impressive shmup with an actual story to follow in the game itself, even if it is minimal at best. Character designs and in-game artworks are cool, but I shouldn't have expected any less from Masaya. (English Fan Translation)
Trouble Shooter // ใƒใƒˆใƒซใƒžใƒ‹ใ‚ข
Trouble Shooter | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†
Cool take on a shmup and a setting I found surprisingly enjoyable. Humor was just corny enough to be likeable and the gameplay and characters left a lasting impression.

Battle Mania Daiginjou // ใƒใƒˆใƒซใƒžใƒ‹ใ‚ขๅคงๅŸ้†ธ
Battle Mania Daiginjou | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†
An improvement over Trouble Shooter in every way. Shame this one didn't get localized back when, it's honestly a really cool shmup and I enjoyed every minute of it. (English Fan Translation)

Blades of Vengeance
Blades of Vengeance | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†
A kinda cool action platformer with an 80s dark fantasy style that sadly got kinda tedious in the last third of the game. I still enjoyed most of it, at least, but I don't really see myself playing it again. Also; fall damage in a game like this is never good.
Dahna: Megami Tanjou // ใƒ€ใƒผใƒŠ ๅฅณ็ฅž่ช•็”Ÿ
Dahna: Megami Tanjou | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†
Not a particularly impressive action game, but I really enjoyed the visual style and setting, so it's at least memorable for that. Has the feeling of a one-shot 80s fantasy OVA, which I love honestly. (English Fan Translation)
Dynamite Headdy // ใƒ€ใ‚คใƒŠใƒžใ‚คใƒˆใƒ˜ใƒƒใƒ‡ใ‚ฃใƒผ
Dynamite Headdy | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†
I am so terrible at this game, but I can't deny the incredible charm it brims with. An absolute must for anyone looking for a tough but fun platforming experience.

Earnest Evans // ใ‚ขใƒผใƒใ‚นใƒˆใƒปใ‚จใƒใƒณใ‚น
Earnest Evans | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†
Interesting action platformer, but the janky controls made it more frustrating than enjoyable. Even so, the music was catchy, so at least it has that. Maybe I'll like the Sega CD version more.
El Viento // ใ‚จใƒซใƒปใƒดใ‚ฃใ‚จใƒณใƒˆ
El Viento | โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†
Super fun action platformer. It isn't without its jank, but there's so much charm that heavily outweighs it. Music is great, love the art style, and Annet is just a cool character.

Today's been rough, and it's not even 3 PM yet, so I'm just gonna take a breath and make a fun post sharing a couple of pictures of my new work desk area.

The space where writing, digital art, and studying happen~ Also a shelf full of resources and inspiration, plus plenty of trinkets. I'm using a piano bench as a seat for now, but I'm hoping I can get an actual chair for this desk at some point. Maybe an old, comfy dining chair that suits the desk.

Date night was lovely last night! We went to a Japanese restaurant first, which I think we both agreed was the best Japanese restaurant we had ever been to. We both got tonkotsu ramen and then shared three different rolls of sushi (I wish I could remember which ones we got). It was amaaazing and I want to go back there so bad. I asked if we could go back on my birthday, but then my spouse reminded me that there was a checkbox on the order sheet for a birthday so that the staff could come sing to you, so now I'm reconsidering going there for that...

After eating, we wandered the mall for a bit. It was a BIG mall and of course all the stores we were interested in peeking into were in a cluster together on the opposite side. Was good exercise, at least. ^^; Anyway, we went into Miniso and I picked up this KissMe "Heroine Make" mascara.

KissMe Heroine Make mascara and eyeliner (KISSME ใƒ˜ใƒญใ‚คใƒณใƒกใ‚คใ‚ฏ ใƒžใ‚นใ‚ซใƒฉใจใ‚คใƒฉใ‚คใƒŠใƒผ)

The eyeliner I picked up at a different Miniso a few weeks ago (sadly not noticing the colour I picked out was brown-black and not black (๏ผ›′โŒ’`) ), but since I've been wanting to do more with my eyes beyond eye shadow, I decided to pick up the mascara, too. THIS TIME picking out black! I considered buying the eyeliner again in black, but I don't want to just waste the one I already have.

And yes, I was absolutely a suckered into it because of the 70s shoujo packaging. I am a simple person and I know what I like LOL

We also swung by EB Games and Hot Topic, both of which I saw things I wanted to buy, but I'm a wee bit too broke until January. (Christmas around the corner, and all that.) Also considered peeking into Sunrise Records, but that would have just been more stuff I wanted to get but couldn't. Remind me to not go to malls unless I have lots of fun money to spend, because they're so dang expensive.

As for Angel's Egg, I was honestly surprised to see that the theatre had filled up at least by half. A week ago it was still just us and three other people, but I guess a lot more people took interest in it last minute? The theatre seats were kinda uncomfortable and we had to sit through roughly a half hour of poorly-targeted ads and movie previews, but once the movie itself started, it was a great time. I'd seen it before, but it was my spouse's first time and he loved it. Everyone else I could hear talking about it afterwards seemed to enjoy it, too.

We were also the last ones out of the theatre, and I saw that the one across from us was in the middle of playing Frankenstein. I let out a little whine because I would LOVE to see in theatres again. That movie has been living rent-free in my head for almost a month now.

So it was a great night! And afterwards, we came home, watched a couple of episodes of Parks and Rec, then went to bed without needing any sleep aids, since we were so tuckered out from being out for so long when we usually stay home.

Did my first ever Discord call with my sister last night, which was great! It was also her first ever Discord call at all, I believe, so we had to walk through a few things before she got Thimbleweed Park set up for me to watch her play. Didn't make a whole lot of progress, but we did have a great time catching up! Was the first time I'd heard her voice since I moved in September. I've missed her a lot.

VTM was amazing yesterday. We got some good angst brewing in our group of characters, which of course has got me rubbing my hands together gleefully. (Even if my character did shoot her shot and ate absolute shit for it.)

As for today, it started off pretty weak with me feeling absolutely exhausted. Probably from adapting to new meds, I assume. Woke up, had breakfast, passed out for a few more hours. Not ideal, but at the very least I did manage to get a good bit of writing work done! It was just summarizing future book ideas, but that's also very important. Here's hoping tomorrow is better. I'd like to get a bit more work done, not just with writing, but art and study too.

We're gonna go see Angel's Egg in theaters this week, so I'm really excited for that! It's such a good movie, and it'll be awesome to see it in a theater. We're also gonna have a dinner date and maybe stop at a store or two, so that'll be fun!

Anyway, now I need to decide if I wanna spend the evening playing more Genesis games on my Vita, or maybe hop on OSRS, hmm.

Lufia & the Fortress of Doom (Finished)

This playthrough was a long time coming. I first played Lufia as a little kid and made... virtually no progress. Then I made several more attempts throughout my adolescence and early adulthood, and now finally, it is done. What didn't help when I last tried more than 10 years ago is that I played Lufia II first. Given the immense quality of life improvements the second game had over the first, it was... rough. For the most part, it's a charming RPG that I do genuinely like and think fondly of, but there are numerous little annoyances that built up and affected my overall enjoyment. Namely, the base encounter rate always felt a little too high. It was like it was essential to have a healthy supply of Sweet Waters to always have up to keep it more tolerable. Although if you run into the situation I did, you'll get frustrated when it suddenly seems like they stopped working, but that's because Lufia's best chest piece has a trait that increases the encounter rate?? Because that's a good idea!! At least the slow walking everywhere that isn't a town was easy enough to adjust to after a few hours. It's like a friend said; this is an NES RPG in an SNES RPG's skin.

Anyway, despite my complaints, I do recommend Lufia to fans of older RPGs. Just... maybeee play the Restored hack for a more enjoyable experience.

Crystalis (Finished)
Another game from my childhood that I've started and stopped more times than I can remember! This was technically my first ever RPG, and revisiting it as a mature adult did not disappoint. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised! To be honest, I'm not as into 8-bit games as much as I am 16-bit and higher. We had an SNES by the time I really started to play games, so my time with the NES was more limited than I'd have liked. Crystalis isn't without its NES funkiness in terms of gameplay, which does lead to some mildly frustrating parts. But the game is actually pretty solid from start to finish. It aged better than most action RPGs of that era! If you're interested in playing it, highly recommend the NES version over the GBC one. The music alone is reason enough, but the bigger screen is a boon since your character doesn't always stay centered on the screen, so you can easily slam head-first into a monster approaching from just out of your range of visibility.

... Thinking about it, I'm almost positive that all the stuff in Amazoness village with the gender swapping was probably one of my earliest genderfluid awakenings. Even if it was just a simple spell for a tiny portion of the game and nothing more. I'll put that on the list beside Ranma ½.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Replay, Finished)
My first replay of the year! I last went through this game when I was in either 8th or 9th grade, which was quite a while ago now, so I definitely felt the itch to revisit this favorite. Not just that, but it was also an excuse to finally try and 100% it. I've always said that A Link to the Past was my favorite 2D Zelda, which might not be entirely fair since I haven't played every 2D Zelda, but even after this replay, it still holds that position. Maybe I should make it a goal to go through the ones I haven't yet? Anyway, I'm surprised by how amazingly this game still holds up. It was just so solidly designed that it's still a blast to play even after so many years later. The only time I felt legitimately frustrated was while fighting the third dungeon boss. In fact, I think I fell during that fight more times than in any other playthrough. Mental note for the future to remember that the spin attack is key for that fight.

Like I mentioned earlier, I aimed to 100% the game this time and actually managed to do it! Previously, I never got lucky enough to get the last heart piece from the late-game chest mini game. I'd get so unlucky I'd run out of rupees, then didn't have the motivation to farm a bunch more to do it all again. But this time, I got it within the first few attempts! Real satisfying to see all 20 hearts on my save file now.

Delicious in Dungeon (Finished)
What in the freaking world. Okay, so I binged every episode of this with [personal profile] elf_wizard in three nights and oh my god, what an amazing show and an equally as amazing dub. I read the first volume or two of the manga a bit before this aired and enjoyed it, but I didn't anticipate that I'd end up outright adoring the series. Aside from an amazing cast, I was also totally in love with the art, animation, music, and storytelling. Like was there anything I didn't like about this series? Maybe season 2 might have something, but I'm doubtful! And I'm always a little hesitant to go into fantasy anime series these days because I feel like more of them lean into weird "anime" shit more than they used to, but this had none of that and I am so goddamn happy.

God, I loved this so much that upon finishing my first watch, I started it again with my spouse, and then a little after that again with more friends. Cannot wait until season 2. Maybe I'll read the manga in the meantime, but we'll see.

Christ, okay I think we're finally reaching the end of this current arc. I've been in love with Witch Hat Atelier since the first few chapters, but once I noticed how much this arc was dragging, I felt more put out than anything each time I went to read a new chapter. And that's a shame, considering each previous arc was well paced. So here's hoping that whatever comes next returns to form!

Adventures of Mana (Finished)

I kinda picked this one up on a whim while browsing games on my Vita after yet another slew of additions. Thinking about just how many dang games were on there and how I had choice paralysis every time, I told myself, "When you have nothing in mind you want to play, start from the top of the list." And there was Adventures of Mana. It's a pretty 3D remake with HACCAN art and beautifully arranged music, but I think I still prefer the sprites and art style of Sword of Mana. In fact, I may just prefer that version overall, as this 3D remake was more faithful to the original Seiken Densetsu/Final Fantasy Adventure, even down to the aspects that I didn't like (such as the keys). It was easier for me to play than the GB original though, and that's despite the fact that the interface could be clunky sometimes due to being a port of a smartphone game. So I'd probably play it over the GB original if I want the "original story" experience again versus the Sword of Mana retelling.

What my heart truly wants though is a modern port of that old 2D remake of SD1 for mobile phones. Assuming it wasn't terrible, that would be my go-to for the original SD1 experience.

Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos (In Progress)
After I finished AoM, I went to the next game on the list and it was... this. Which I don't hate, or even dislike, but it's definitely been a mixed experience. The music is good, some of the character designs are cool. But I started with the underworld story and to be honest, the three lead characters bored the hell out of me. I can't even remember their names, but I remember the names of the supporting character that I liked much more. And due to the gameplay feeling kinda clunky, honestly I just cheated. It wasn't enjoying that aspect at all, so I figured I'd make it trivial. And the plot feels very basic, but I didn't really expect much going into this game as it was. So yeah, I'm going back and forth between "I'm enjoying this enough" and "Why am I wasting time playing this game?" At least the underworld story is finished now. We'll see how I feel when I try the other two stories, but I'm going to take this one month at a time, just to give myself breathing room.

Fullmetal Alchemist (Finished)
I realize I included this in my 2024 summary, but I didn't watch the last few episodes until the start of January, so it counts for this media log. Anyway, the original FMA had been on my radar for so many years. I grew up with friends who were utterly enamored by the series, but for one reason or another, I just never watched it while it was airing, despite having the channel. I might have been going through a pretty strong phase of just playing games at the time. So this was long overdue, and I'm kicking myself in the butt for how long it took me to watch it because... this is one of my favorite anime series now? Like I absolutely loved this. The first quarter or so was mostly just me enjoying it, but after that I started to get way more into it, and by the end I was so invested that I was sad that it was over. I even went out and bought the Bluray so that I could have it to easily watch again whenever, so that's how you know I loved it.

I... don't have any interest in watching Brotherhood though, if I'm being honest. I've heard how it handled some plot elements and really have no interest in it because of that.

Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa (Finished)
I don't have a ton to say about this movie, since it's a direct follow-up to the original series and I share a lot of the same feelings between the two. But I thought it was a really interesting way to wrap it all up and, spoilers, probably one of the better anime depictions of pre-WW2 era Germany that I've seen. I just wish it had been a whole mini-series like it was originally supposed to be, because at times it does feel a bit rushed, but not in a way that makes things confusing. More in a "I want this more drawn out" way.

♦ Baldur's Gate III | Finished
It's been a couple of weeks since my last post, so this is long since finished. In the end, I loved my time with the game, but I won't ignore its shortcomings. Especially all the bugs in Act 3 and the few timed quests that loomed over me. But, it was a great time overall. Looking forward to other playthroughs, both solo and with friends/my partner. Still feel a little bad about dumping Gale, but I really was not feeling it and was far more interested in the big, poly druid. Though let's be real; my interests fully lie with Zevlor, but he's not a companion, now is he?!

♦ Atelier Marie Remake | Finished
Finished the game with the same ending I got in the original years ago, which I believe is the one for hitting level 50. I had hit numerous ending requirements and wasn't sure how the game would prioritize that, but part of me was hoping the remake would've had some option to let me select an ending. I guess that in future playthroughs, I'll need to make sure I only hit the requirements for the ending I really want, and then kinda wait out the rest of the time. Either way, this remake was fantastic and I hope they do remakes of the other pre-Iris games in the same style!

♦ Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete | In Progress [Replay]
Finally started my replay of this on the bike, since Atelier Marie is done. I've always been so fond of this series, but this replay has made me realize that I'm kinda... tired of Silver Star Story. It's the golden child of the series and the one that get all the attention. I've seen it far more than Eternal Blue, which is the one that captured my heart most. Doesn't help that Silver Star had two other remakes/retellings since the 90s, and Eternal Blue... hasn't. The 1998 remake was it, minus a port of the PS1 remake to PSN in Japan in... 2015? I've also found the English translation far more grating this time around than in the past. I'm definitely a "localization over straight translation" person, but sometimes this one goes too hard on the 90s teenage humor. Further motivation to keep studying Japanese, huh? Though without this localization, I'd likely have never known about the game until years after my adolescence, so it isn't without its positives.

Finally caught up on a few months worth of chapters. I love this series to pieces, but I am a little tired of the current arc. It feels like its been going on for ages and I'd like to see a resolution soon. Or just... something more substantial. This could also just be further proof that I'm not that into reading ongoing series. Maybe I should opt for only reading it as new volumes come out?

Woke up sick today and don't have much energy for anything, so I figured a quick and easy media log would be best so I have something productive I've done today.

♦ Baldur's Gate III | In Progress
Still working through Act 3. The amount of hour I put in last week were far less than the week before, as I'm starting to feel a bit drained on the game. But I'm also so close to the end now that I just wanna finish it. (Though there's upcoming story decisions that I spoiled myself on intentionally and I'm anxious about having to make.) I'd also like to work on other games again, since this is still taking pretty much all my time. At least, aside from some annoying bugs, I'm still enjoying myself quite a bit.

♦ Baldur's Gate III | In Progress
I've been having a blast with this, considering it's the only game I've really played in the past week. I've made my way through Act 2, which was fantastic, and am now into Act 3, which is... overwhelming. There's a lot to do, and I'm a little frustrated because I have to try and work around some bullshit Larian did with timed progression for a certain story quest. I hope they patch it, because being at this point in the game and feeling rushed is... not how you wanna do it. At least I finally settled on a romantic partner for my character. Go figure I finally decided on the big elf man, but I had no idea he was poly. That works out fantastically for my character, who is also a big poly. Though admittedly, I've been disappointed in how Larian has handled poly relationships in this game, but I'll spare doubling this block of text by not rambling about it.

Finally done, and I absolutely loved it. Those last few episodes got me, even though I knew what was coming. Teared up, and now I need the whole series on BD.

Just started this yesterday, so only one episode watched so far. There was a lot I wanted to play/watch this year as a sort of "memory" of a friend who passed, but I've been ridiculously distracted by other things and haven't made much progress with it. ♦ Baldur's Gate III | In Progress
It's finally out of Early Access. After messing around with the game more times than I remember during that period, I always held off from going too far because I knew I'd rather just wait for the full game. And I'm really enjoying it so far! Though I will admit that even on Explorer mode, it's a little too slow going for my tastes. Not the pacing of the plot, but the combat. I just wanna enjoy everything else, so I've already cracked open WeMod, lol.

♦ Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator | In Progress [Replay]
The last time I touched this game was July of 2020, so I finally put my foot down and got back to it. It took me a hot minute to remember how to play the game, what I had last done, and what had been going on in the plot. But I'm all adjusted to it now and I'm eager to get  back into it. Although, of course I had to pick it back up right as BG3 came out...

♦ Xanadu Next | In Progress
Right! I also picked this one back up after about a year of not playing. Even with the long gap, I somehow feel like I understand how to play this game better than I did before? It's weird. It's like the controls didn't click with me before, but now they do, and I've been having no troubles playing it.

♦ Atelier Marie Remake | In Progress
I had a health issue come up that prevented me from playing this on the bike all week last week, so I didn't make any progress and am still in Year 2.

♦ Castlevania: Aria of Sorry | In Progress [Replay]
Forgot to mention that I started this. I haven't gone more than a few hours in and haven't touched it in a couple of weeks now, since it's a game I'm streaming to a friend and between my afternoon schedule and her ridiculous sleep schedule, we just haven't been able to get together for it.

♦ Ys IV: Dawn of Ys | In Progress
No recent progress.

♦ Final Fantasy XIV | Endless
Interest sort of plummeted after two weeks from the patch, which is par for the course. No matter how much I want to be playing this game, it's hasn't bee able to keep me invested.

♦ Final Fantasy II: Pixel Remaster | Finished
Another FF Pixel Remaster down! I've always had a soft spot for FF2, so I was happy to revisit it through a version that had options to make the game a breeze. Since I was playing it while riding my indoor bike, I mostly wanted something more laid back. Still enjoy the story and characters for what they are, but it's so easy to see how the narratives in FF games only got more robust with each following game. Anyway, I got carried away with grinding and ended up making the final boss a little too easy, so next time I replay that game, I'll make sure to do it on one where I don't have access to battle boosts.

♦ Ys IV: Dawn of Ys | In Progress
No recent progress.

♦ Castlevania: Harmoy of Dissonance | Finished
You ever have a moment where you completely overlook a crucial feature in a game until some point in the final hours of your playthrough? That was me with realizing you could teleport between the gates by pressing Down. I honestly didn't know this until I had maybe one or two bosses left before the final boss stuff, and I felt like an absolute idiot. Anyway, the game is done and I definitely didn't like it as much as I remembered. I kinda enjoyed Circle of the Moon more, to be honest. But I much preferred the art direction of this game over that.

♦ Adventure Island | Finished
I don't know why the hell I played this game, because I kinda hated it from beginning to end. I've been wanting to knock out more older stuff on my radar that I know could take me an afternoon or two finish. I have nostalgia for the second and third games in the series from watching my siblings play them when I was a kid, but man. This one was just painful.

♦ Super Mario RPG [Replay] | Finished
I had started a livestream playthrough of this back in... oh god, 2020? And I made it roughly half way or more through the game and then just... stopped. Well, I'm not interested in doing livestreams anymore, aside from doing them for friends over Discord or chat-only ones on a side account for friends and acquaintances. So I just picked this back up on my own time and finished it last night! Last time I played the game from start to finish was over ten years ago, and I remember it being a lot harder? But this really wasn't so bad. Still a lot of fun.

♦ Atelier Marie Remake | In Progress
FINALLY. I had to wait a bit for my copy from Play-Asia and then to finish FF2 so I didn't have to swap Switch carts, but I am finally on to this now! I've been having so much fun revisiting this game after so many years, and in a language I understand. I even teared up a bit while hearing a few BGMs that I hadn't heard in years. Atelier Marie means a lot to me for reasons I won't get into in a media log, but yeah. I'm having a blast.

♦ Final Fantasy XIV | Endless
We've actually been doing things in this! We did the new Blue Mage content, got a bunch of the new skills (mostly from trials/raids), and power leveled some friends. I still have some skills from the last patch to get, though, so hope fully I can find enough people interested in getting those. Anyway, aside from that, my partner, my friend, and I have finally been tackling the Variant Dungeons and are hoping to maybe start some full runs of Deep Dungeons? Might be hard with just three, but people do it with just one, so I'm sure we'll manage.

♦ Elder Scrolls Online | Endless

I mean, I knew I would, but wow. I gotta buy the blu-rays of this when I get the chance, I love the series so much. ♦ Final Fantasy XVI | Finished
I finished this about a week after it released. And again, since it's so close to when it came out, I'll keep my notes as ambiguous as I can. I loved so much about the game, to the point that it climbed the ladder of my favorite FFs pretty damn high. But it's shortcomings were strong enough that it held it back from breaching into the favorites. But it gave me Dion and Jill, plus many other characters I love and adore. And characters are the best part of a narrative-driven game for me, so that's what keeps it high on the list.

♦ Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition | Finished
Finally just pushed myself to wrap this up. I was much closer to the end than I realized, and tossing the remaining side quests I had to the wind certainly helped me just go for it. There's good side quests, with an interesting story that somehow ties into the main plot or involves the player characters in a personal way. And then there's fetch quests and petty disputes between NPCs I'll never see again, and I felt like there was too much of the latter. A good game, but I'm glad I broke down and finally just played the EE instead of trying to play the original. Now, there's no way I'm gonna start and finish Baldur's Gate II before III comes out, but ah well.

♦ Final Fantasy: Pixel Remaster | Finished
I completely forgot to mention this one the last time I did a media log update. This was my indoor bike game after I finished Odin Sphere. I was a little disappointed it went back to the old magic system of 9 uses of each level of magic, but it was a non-issue when I had all the battle boosts on at all times, lol. The game was over pretty quick, and I still enjoyed it as much as I've enjoyed any other remake of FFI. Sucks that there's no bonus dungeon content, but ah well.

♦ Final Fantasy II: Pixel Remaster | In Progress
And now I'm on to this for my indoor bike game. I know FFII is a bit of a black sheep, but I remembered enjoying it when I played it on the GBA years ago. And I'm still enjoying it now, too. Although the battle boosts certainly help, plus being able to turn random encounters on and off on the fly.

♦ Ys IV: Dawn of Ys | In Progress
Picked this back up again. I hadn't touched it in months, so it took me a hot minute to remember what I was doing and what had happened, but it all fell back into place and I've been mostly able to keep my memory of key people, places, and events in order. Still loving the music and having an overall blast. It just feels like more of the first two games, but improved. But now here's hoping I can keep consistent with it, especially since I think I'm in the last third or quarter of the game now.

♦ Castlevania: Harmoy of Dissonance | In Progress [Replay]
Aaagh, I forgot this one was on hold. It was one of a few that I remembered I had started and stopped for whatever reason. I'm trying to clear out my backlog of games that were in progress, but I can only do so many at a time. Anyway, it's been years since I played this and I remembered liking it more than I am this time around. Juste is an absolute gender, but the level design is wearing me thin. There is so much backtracking and not enough teleporters or save points. Everything feels so widely spaced out and it's just not working for me. I mean, I'll persevere anyway, but the reason exploring two castles in SotN worked is because you explored them one after the other, not at the same time. I feel lost way too much and have started keeping a map on hand to guide me.

♦ Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir | Finished
Ahhh, okay, I wrote a whole thing on my thoughts on this, so I'll try and sum it up to be more media log-friendly. Basically, I loved this game in almost every aspect... except the level design. And I suppose some character design stuff, but ultimately everything else was so fantastic that I still consider this game among those I love. I'm soft for all the playable cast, but especially Velvet and Cornelius.

♦ Myst III: Exile | Finished
This game was better than I was expecting it to be. As someone who loved Myst and adored Riven, I had my reservations going into the third game because I knew it was the first that steered a little differently. But it was so well done that I couldn't even tell it wasn't 100% done by Cyan. Still wasn't wild about the 360 degrees of view while still using "nodes", but I got used to it after a while. Can't wait for my eventual replay.

♦ Everhood | Finished
Started and finished in two play sessions. I had watched both my partner and a friend play through it though, so it was nothing new. Just a refresher with me at the helm this time. Still love it and its quirkiness.

♦ Final Fantasy XVI | In Progress
Dear god, did I ever "no life" this game from Friday through Monday. It had a slightly shaky start with me, due to the fears of just how "Game of Thrones" this was gonna be, but after I reached a certain point, it absolutely became more Final Fantasy. I really wish they had just never said the Game of Thrones thing, for multiple reasons. Anyway, I won't say much else since it's so hot off the burner, but I will say; damn, it's great being bisexual.

I felt a little drained in the middle of the season and I'm not particularly sure why. There's only 20 episodes and I feel like it moves at a pretty consistent pace. Despite that, I still enjoyed my time rewatching this after 13 years and am even more excited to go into the second season, which I have never, ever watched more than maybe 6 episodes of. (I've read the manga, though. But that's quite different.)

♦ Carole & Tuesday | Finished
Holy shit. I knew I enjoyed this series back when I watched the first few episodes when it first came out, but I'm so upset that I sat on watching it in full for so long. Both my partner and I have deep interest in creating music, and this just struck all the right chords with us. Love it so much. I need the BD set.

♦ The Rose of Versailles | Episode 2
This series has been on the back burner for so many years, but it was what struck the most interest with me upon finishing those other two series, so I'm finally going into it. I don't think I've ever watched an anime series from the 70s before. I thought Urusei Yatsura was, but that started in 1981 and I never actually finished it, so. Anyway, as someone who adores Utena, this has been right up my alley so far and I'm excited to watch more.

All right, now I'm starting to feel like we're getting somewhere. The past so many chapters were slower than I like with very little dialogue, but this had a bit more. I'm still bitter about Casca, but here's hoping they don't drag it out too long. Or maybe it's revving up to the end of the series, I don't know. It's so hard to say since Miura's passing, but I feel like it was hard to say even while he was alive.

♦ Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir | In Progress
Started playing this both on and off the indoor bike. I'm so conflicted because I love almost everything about this game; the art, the music, the characters, the story, the combat. But the level design is... wearing me down. I'm not thrilled about having to play the same stages and fight the same bosses, shuffled around. Though I understand it from a narrative perspective. I also talked to a friend of mine that loves the game, who told me the stages were worse in the original and the developers did what they could to make them more interesting for the remake. So I don't feel as harshly as I did before, but it's still a little bit of a bummer.

♦ Dragon Quest Builders 2 | Finished
I had taken a break from this for a couple of weeks, then came back and rushed the rest of the story to the end. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it really got on my nerves during Moonbrooke. "Characters have a conflict they can solve by communicating, but don't" is one of my least favorite story elements, full stop. It's not good. At least the last area made up for it a bit. And now the real game begins with the freedom of the post game, AND I can play this freely with my friend now. So I'm happy for that. But even though I'll be playing this on and off, I'll remove it from the list in the next post since it'll be too on-and-off to count it.

♦ Myst III: Exile | In Progress
Finally grabbed my friend and sat her down to get back to watching me stream this. Had to refresh myself on the story a little bit, but we're almost done now. Just one more Age to go. As usual, the environments are so stunning and the music is fantastic. The 360 degrees of view while still having the click-through locations is a little disorienting, but that's about the only complaint I have.

Had fun with the MSQ, and doing the Pandaemonium fights was fun. But the story for that had me scratching my head. And though I say I had fun with the MSQ, it was more the experience of doing it than the story itself. I've been living for this FFIV content, but the story itself hasn't really impressed me. Guess I'll see how the last stretch of it is before 7.0. In the words of my friend's partner, "This tells me they've been real hard at work with FFXVI."

♦ Elder Scrolls Online | Endless
Daily login rewards still. My break is almost over and I didn't even work on any story. The new expansion is out to, so that's a bummer. I'll get around to it when I can, though. Right now I'm just trying to clear out my backlog of stuff I've currently started.

♦ Magic Knight Rayearth | Episode 8 [Rewatch]
It's been a while since I last watched this, so it's been fun doing so again. But I'm only watching an episode a day, roughly. And I hadn't been for a bit there since I was away from home for a week. It also has me inspired to play the video games, as I've only played the SNES one despite wanting to play the others for so long. At least most are translated.

♦ Carole & Tuesday | Episode 1
My partner and I started this over, since we had originally started watching it back when it first came out and never finished. But we've both been feeling very drawn to music-themed media lately, so we wanted to finally stop saying we'd get back to this and actually do it.

Another great chapter, though it felt like this one was over with so quick. It's starting to feel like the conflict of this arc is nearing its end, which I'm a little relieved for. Slow going since I've only been playing it on the indoor bike so far, but I'm really loving everything about this game currently. Especially the environments, my god. But at least I can have this on in the background more easily. I actually forgot that Tracey Moore was only Serena's voice actor for the first eleven episodes and a couple more after that before Terri Hawkes took over. I can't remember which one was the one everyone was always super thrilled about, but so far they both seem great to me.
