𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀: How do you design particles with the flowability, stability and solubility your application needs? Dr. Michael Jacob from Glatt Ingenieurtechnik Weimar was welcomed to the TTC Technology Training Center for an internal training "Particle Technology: From Nano to Macro." Using practical industrial examples, he demonstrated how material properties, process conditions and equipment design interact to define particle size, morphology and functionality. A core message was clear: 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞. Product performance results from the interaction of three key factors: ▪️ Material properties (composition, density, viscosity, solubility) ▪️ Process conditions (temperature, fluid dynamics, mass flows) ▪️ Equipment design (process stability, product quality, operational performance) For engineers, this means that developing, optimizing or troubleshooting a product requires looking at all three dimensions together. Through examples from the food, feed, fine chemicals and materials industries, Dr. Jacob illustrated how particle engineering technologies can be used to tailor product properties while balancing quality, process robustness and energy efficiency.
