    German Federal Minister of Transport Steffen Bilger visited the MAHLE plant in Vaihingen/Enz today. Plant Manager Joachim Wulff presented the new photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) system for generating electricity and heat for the plant to the Federal Minister. With 1,000 hybrid modules, it is currently Germany’s largest system of its kind. The plant operates largely independent of natural gas and saves over 400 metric tons of CO₂ annually. The visit took place as part of the traditional “Eco Tour” organized by Steffen Bilger and the CDU Ludwigsburg branch. The hybrid modules are supplied by Sunmaxx PVT, a leading European PVT manufacturer, and a strategic investment and development partner to MAHLE. The modules also pack MAHLE electrification technology: cooling plates developed by MAHLE and integrated into the modules keep the solar cells at an optimal operating temperature while recovering heat for heating—significantly increases overall system efficiency. #MAHLE #WeShapeFutureMobility

    Making hydrogen history At MAHLE, we’re proud to support pioneers who drive hydrogen mobility forward. And the team from HyDriven Twente just showed what’s possible. At the iconic Red Bull Ring, they made Formula Student Austria history—right on Formula Student’s biggest stage. 🏆 Efficiency Award The most efficient of all 38 electric teams competing—despite racing a hydrogen-electric car weighing nearly twice as much as many of its competitors. 🏆 Hydrogen Award The first hydrogen-powered Formula Student team ever to successfully complete all dynamic events at Formula Student Austria, including the challenging 22 km Endurance. But breakthroughs like this don’t happen overnight. MAHLE has been supporting HyDriven Twente for several years, working closely with the team to develop both the vehicle and its fuel-cell system. “We’re beyond proud of this amazing result,” says Dr. Markus Auer Auer, who leads the collaboration between MAHLE and the team. “We’re in weekly contact with the team from Twente, discussing everything from the vehicle and fuel cell to energy management.” From troubleshooting the drive system to cross-checking safety requirements, the collaboration is hands-on, technical, and driven by shared ambition: to push hydrogen mobility further. Because this is about more than trophies. It’s about proving that hydrogen can compete. That efficiency and performance can go hand in hand. Over the past few years, several generations of apprentices have contributed to recreating the Climatic Wind Tunnel in Feuerbach as a functional miniature model. Now, the project has finally been completed. From design and construction to electronics and PLC programming, our apprentices developed and implemented many solutions independently, transforming an ambitious idea into a fully functional model that simulates the key functions of the real facility.     It looks like a simple metal plate. It isn’t. Behind the simple appearance of a battery cooling plate lies a highly sophisticated manufacturing process with virtually no manual handling. Stringent requirements for corrosion resistance, surface quality, and cleanliness make advanced production technologies essential. MAHLE is now producing up to 15,000 battery cooling plates per week at its Montblanc, Tarragona plant, built around a highly automated production line engineered for precision, quality, and scale. Automated cathodic dip coating (e-coating) ensures uniform coverage, excellent adhesion, and long-lasting corrosion protection. Combined with PVC surface treatments, these technologies significantly expand the plant’s manufacturing capabilities, supported by the expertise of specialists in industrial electronics, robotics, and precision mechanics. Sustainability is built into the production process as well. A new water treatment system reduces water consumption in the e-coating process by 95%, while the cooling plates themselves are made from 100% recyclable aluminum.     Working on the future of transportation, one question remains key: how can transportation become more sustainable without sacrificing efficiency? At the MAHLE Media Tech Day ahead of IAA TRANSPORTATION, Dr Marco Warth, Vice President Corporate Research and Engineering at MAHLE explained why electrification in the transportation sector must go hand in hand with economic viability and how MAHLE technologies are helping shape this transformation. His three key takeaways:   📌 Electrification must deliver a clear business case. For commercial vehicles, reducing CO₂ emissions alone is not enough. New technologies must also maximize vehicle availability, lower operating cost and create tangible value for fleet operators. At MAHLE, sustainability, efficiency and profitability go hand in hand. 📌 The MAHLE Range Extender System makes electrification for long haul applications more practical. The fully integrated range extender provides operational flexibility by ensuring reliable energy supply when charging infrastructure is unavailable or routes become longer than expected. It enables ranges of more than 800 kilometers while reducing battery weight by around 600 kilograms, creating benefits for payload, resource efficiency and vehicle design. 📌 Innovatative products generating system-level benefits are key to future mobility. Rather than optimizing individual components, MAHLE focuses on the vehicle system-level.
