✨ How do we build trust and support among our audiences - and sustain it? How can we diversify revenue streams without compromising editorial independence? How can democratic decision-making be maintained as a media organization grows and needs to move faster? 🌎 At the 14th edition of #FestivalGabo, the most important gathering of journalists in Latin America, DW Akademie created spaces for reflection and discussion on the viability of journalism today. Journalists, founders of independent and community media outlets and media practitioners from across the region, including Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia and Argentina, explored independent journalism approaches. Particular attention was given to media cooperatives. 👉 Find 10 key takeaways from the discussions how media cooperatives help media outlets thrive in our listicle: https://lnkd.in/e2a9zyrS Gemma Terés Arilla taz panterstiftung Ernesto Lamas El Cuarto Mosquetero Michelle Nogales Cardozo Fundación Muy Waso la diaria

Blending old and new ways of dialogue For our dialogue dossier, Theo Dolan, Senior Advisor for Information Disorder at BBC Media Action, explores how combining traditional media formats with emerging deliberative technologies can create new opportunities for dialogue, trust-building and civic participation. Drawing on experiences from radio dramas, TV programs and community dialogue initiatives, the article is on how media can bring diverse voices into public conversations and encourage meaningful engagement both online and offline. Dolan also looks at the growing potential of deliberative technology platforms, which use structured, moderated discussions to help people identify common ground, even across deep social and political divides. What skill do you think people need most in the age of AI? AI hasn't changed the goal of media literacy, but it has changed the playing field. When content can be generated instantly and recommendation systems influence what we see, understanding how information reaches us becomes just as important as evaluating the information itself. One question increasingly matters: 👉"What system produced this, and why?" Key insights from DW Akademie's teaching resource by Roslyn K Moore and Joost van de Port on AI and media literacy: https://lnkd.in/dp9H2CFD

The project "Fill the Space: Ensuring information supply and media trust for stabilisation in Syria" is funded by the European Union and implemented by DW Akademie, in partnership with Fatabyyano. The project seeks to strengthen local media capacities, enhance fact-checking practices, and promote awareness-raising initiatives to combat disinformation in Syria.
