It was a real pleasure having you and the team with us! 🦾🩵 Even though the journey didn’t continue to the final phase, we loved seeing the ideas and teamwork that went into the challenge. And as you said – a lot was learned along the way! 😊
At least we had fun and learned a lot! Sadly we didn't make it to the last phase of the AI for industry challenge. Of course we would have loved to see what our solution could do on a real robot, but on the other hand we have learned a lot of new things! This was personally my first time working with a manipulator 🦾, but I was happily surprised on how many things I knew from other fields like quadcopter state estimation and computer vision that were still transferrable to a seemingly completely different platform. I guess if you know ROS it definitely helps! In any case, we'd hope to share more about our approach and at least I have some blogpost (and more) in the pipeline to explain what we have done in our AIC journey 😄 Thanks again to my great team mates Jennifer Buehler and Yara Shahin and b»robotized for hosting the team! Also thanks to the organization of the AI for industry challenge from Intrinsic and lots of good luck to the remaining teams. Very curious to your outcomes! Btw, here a short snippet of what we used to train HilSerl for one of the plugs in Gazebo, running on Windows 11 through WSL. 🤖 In Gazebo, the robot has “perfect” wheel feedback, with no unexpected wheel slip, friction or odometry drift, so navigation is smooth and repeatable. On the real robot, wheel encoders measure how far the wheels actually turn (instead of assuming), helping correct for these real-world effects and providing the accurate odometry needed to localize, follow paths, and reach goals precisely. 🎯 #robotics #ROS2 #gazebo #odometry #simulation
