I moved around a lot when I was really young, but my family settled in the DC area before I finished elementary school (just) and my parents still live in that house. I, on the other hand, went away for college, dropped out & came back with a depression relapse, married a guy, came out as a lesbian, divorced the guy, may have spoken too soon on the lesbian thing but maybe not (it's still a work in progress (I'm at least bi, and sensitive to the effects of male privilege on intimate relationships, so)), left a well-paid and decent job because it required working with the guy while he was being a bit of a jerk, got another job that didn't pay as well and was completely unsuited to my temperament, quit that job, moved 1800 miles southwest, and now I really, really, really miss Ethiopian food. I love green chile and sunshine, though, and I don't get migraines nearly as often as back home, except in monsoon season. My sister beat me out here, and I have extended family I rarely saw before the move, so I'm not totally isolated. Also, my (progressive and accepting) church has been an extremely helpful resource in the friends department, as well as the usual.

I was laid off recently from the job I got when I first moved here, and just started taking classes at the local community college half in the hopes of riding out the economy on financial aid, and half intending to go for a MLS once I've finally gotten a bachelor's degree. The BS will probably be computer science, with database leanings-- lucrative enough to pay for the masters, I hope, in addition to being useful background.

My politics and spirituality lean so far progressive my left ear gets rug burns, but if you're not inciting hate or depriving anyone of life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness we'll probably be alright.

If it carries even a whiff of nerd, I'm probably interested in it and I've at least been exposed to it-- I never got the minis bug, except for a brief fling with heroclix, for instance, but I miss pen and paper gaming (haven't found a good game here yet), I love console & computer RPGS as well as just about any other game that doesn't require twitch skill, and reading was my first love.
