Other endorsers include Faith in Minnesota, Tending the Soil, United Renters for Justice, Unidos Minnesota, Communities Against Police Brutality, Indivisible Twin Cities, Women’s March Minnesota, the worker center Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en la Lucha, and Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee. In all, 90 organizations, big and small, have endorsed the call.

Under the banner “ICE Out of MN: Day of Truth and Freedom,” they are calling for ICE to leave the state, for the officer who killed Good to be held legally accountable, for no additional federal funding for ICE, and for businesses to sever any economic ties with the federal agency.

--> It's very important that whatever your politics, you look for news that is on the other side of issues, as long as it is high-fact-containing. Media bias charts can help you figure out reliable sources.

Non-reliable sources are CBS, Fox, OAN.

"THIS IS A POST ABOUT WHY FASCIST ELITES MUST RECRUIT MEN AS FOOT SOLDIERS WHO HATE AND FEAR ASSERTIVE WOMEN TO THE POINT OF VIOLENCE AND MURDER.
… especially those portrayed as “disobedient, Communist whores” or whatever the current terms for uppity women are … The man who has unearthed more about the fascist mind than anyone before or since is Klaus Theweleit, an 83-year-old German sociologist."

"And the men who become fascist foot soldiers are highly correlated with the fear of, and malevolent hatred for women who … “do not know their place.”
Theweleit uses his sources to demonstrate that women (ALL women) are more like non-player-characters (NPCs) to the fascist foot soldiers than people. Only other men, and REALLY only other fascist men, are people." Sources are listed at the end of the article.

"After 48 hours of torture, Dr. Christie wrote a forced confession — “the best thing I ever wrote,” he later told the BBC, noting that he had made sure the confession included “all my recommendations to the African National Congress” about the best way to sabotage Koeberg and other facilities.

“And, gloriously, the judge read it out in court,” Dr. Christie added. “So my recommendations went from the judge’s mouth” straight to the A.N.C."

I saw a statement online [with no citations, you fool writer] that Covid causes cancer, so I read several research papers from the past year to find out if this was true. There are two quoted and linked below. Papers from earlier in the pandemic have a lot of "we need more data/time" sorts of conclusions.

It looks to me that it causes lung cancer but other cancers are not yet proven. Note: there are several other viruses known to cause cancers.

September 2025: The double-edged sword: How SARS-CoV-2 might fuel lung cancer: Investigating the potential oncogenic mechanisms of the novel coronavirus in lung carcinogenesis

“It has been proven [other research] that although the SARS virus is not capable of integrating into the host genome, it uses the mechanisms of other human oncoviruses to cause lung cancer.”

“the emerging hypothesis that SARS-CoV-2 infection might actively contribute to de novo carcinogenesis or accelerate the progression of existing, previously undetected, or dormant cancers. This proposition is supported by observations of increased cancer-related deaths and accelerated metastatic lung disease among cancer survivors who have been infected with SARS-CoV-2. The mechanisms underpinning this potential oncogenic influence are multifaceted and are currently a significant area of active research(Chia et al., 2024a, 2024b).”

At present, transmission levels are low in my area. Standard flu is high (not on this chart - v high in NYC and other areas.). Note that Eastern Mass levels are not representative of the whole state or of New England generally.

NB: it looks like at least one of my public health newsletters is using the term SARS2 instead of the probably-filtered-by-some-platforms "Covid-19". rolls eyes

The full term would be SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2)

Other infectious:

If you go looking for news on Bird Flu, you should search for “highly pathogenic avian influenza” -HPAI- which is the term many sources are using because bird flu is several different individual viruses.

The USA is still not assertively testing for bird flu; it's entirely up to individual farms and/or states to report anything to the Feds. I think this is just ASKING for a huge human pandemic of bird flu to happen soonish. Especially as bird flu is transmitted between farms on the WIND.

You'll see bird flu strains noted with the initials-and-letters scheme such as H5N1, H5N4, H5N3. Standard human flu also has designations with the same scheme; for example, the influenza type that is surging now in the US (and causing a lot of ER visits) is H3N2.

The designation of "200 RNA copies per ml" (X axis) as "low transmission" is something I figured out by reading a lot of articles and also text/English opinions about eastern MA transmission about a year ago. I doubt you could find anyone official saying "X level on this wastewater chart is low transmission."

I made two new designs for myself on Spoonflower (custom printed yardage), but they are available to buy if other people want them. My most popular design, however, is the Elvish calligraphy trim. I get about a dollar per yard someone else buys. Spoonflower will print on linen, velvet, chiffon, cotton twill... many different fabrics. Also wallpaper.

The designs are an irregular peppermint candy cane stripe, and Elizabethan pearl-and-goldwork from a painting - see image.

My designs are here: https://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/cvirtue?sort=new

Creator: They do, and in some cases it's more than I get for people watching ads."

Book: My current favorite new book is based on this series of shorts by the woman that's been doing armor & movie swordfights reviews for years; her description of this is "Caroline wants to write a romantasy novel. Rosamund, her heroine, isn't quite the compliant 18-year-old she expected..."

From Truly Victorian on FB, today/yesterday:

FRAUD ALLERT UPDATE - We have identified the fraudster as Dorothy Ohare of thefarthingale.com and Farthingale Enterprise here on FB.

NOT Farthingales in Canada
farthingalescorsetmakingsupplies com <- this company is not related to the pirate in any way.

She has now removed her sales listings from her website of Truly Victorian, Laughing Moon Mercantile, and Margo Anderson patterns. I suspect those other patterns were fraudulent as well.

It looks like she has been doing this for some time, since 2023 possibly. I am sad to say that I know this person, and many years ago was a legitimate reseller of our patterns. We are such a small community of Historical Costumers, and it is hard to believe that one of our own would do this.

FRAUD ALLERT - I was just contacted by a visitor to the San Fransisco Dicken's Fair that she was sold a pirated copy of a Truly Victorian pattern. It was a printed version of our AO digital pattern. Not only was the pattern unauthorized, is was also incomplete. I have not yet ferreted out who sold the pattern, so if anyone has any leads, I will be thankful.

The unfortunate buyer was unaware that the pattern was fraudulent, and only contacted me to get the missing pages.
The buyer provided this photo of the pattern she bought.

If you ever see a Truly Victorian pattern being sold in a manila envelope, it is a pirated copy! If you see a pattern that has A1 in a circle (or other letter/number combo) on it, IT IS A PIRATED COPY!

This seller also created their own cover page, with illustration (without scrollwork frame), and self typed size chart and description.

If you see these patterns for sale, do not buy these patterns, and please contact me with any information you may have about the seller.

Northern half of the US: go look outside through your smartphone camera, also try naked eye.

Rest of the US: check local news - visibility is unusually south-ish.

Best viewing is usually between 10pm-2am local time. Also check Wednesday night.

This is my own photo from about 8:45pm.

The app I use is SpaceWeatherLive, but there are others; the secondary app I use is called Aurora, and while it's less detailed than SpaceWeather, it will send you alerts, which SpaceWeather won't.

I've been looking through (and printing out) stereograms from the Library of Congress, Smithsonian, etc, to view on my stereoviewer. There are also some recently-published books of these which include a stereoviewer in the front cover.

Text from the back of the photo card; probably around 1930 (at the end of the popularity of stereograms)

"WHEN THE FROST IS ON THE PUN'K-IN, AND THE FODDER'S IN THE SHOCK" INDIANA. Lat. 40° N.; Long. 86° W.

Here is a genuine fall scene in the country You could almost walk across the cornfield by stepping from pumpkin to pumpkin. In the background are some fodder shocks, and beyond this lies the apple orchard. It is "gathering-in" time in the fall. In the bright days of autumn when the frost glitters in the early morning, farmers begin to gather in the crops.

James Whitcomb Riley, the Indiana poet, thought this the best time of the year. He tells about it in the poem that is the subject of this description. You have doubtless read others of his poems such as "When the Flag Goes By, "The Old Swimmin' Hole," "Out to Old Aunt Mary's." Riley was born in 1853 at Greenfield, Indiana. He had only a common school education. Then he went as an assistant to a patent medicine man. Later he began writing verse for the Indianapolis papers. He soon became popular as the "Hoosier Poet" , and is known all over the world where people like the poetry of common things. He died in 1916.

Whittier also wrote a poem on the pumpkin:

From his home in the north. On the fields of his harvest the Yankee looks forth, Where crook-necks are curling and yellow fruit shines, And the sun of September melts down on his vines.

What moistens the lip and what brightens the eye? What calls back the past like the rich pumpkin pie?

When wild, ugly faces we carved in its skin, Glaring out through the dark with a candle within!"

The last lines refer to Hallowe'en when the shell of the pumpkin is used to make a head in which a candle is set.

An Interview With the Portland Chicken

"There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing.
What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying Noem is up on the balcony staring over the "Antifa Army" and it’s eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit."

I found out that my hometown newspaper has archives going back 200 years, and spent a lot of today searching out articles about my older relatives, which was entertaining. I discovered that my grandfather, who ended his life as a respected general manager of a very large paper mill, was a dastardly youth who had more than a few traffic tickets, such as passing a streetcar when it was unloading, for which he was fined $5 in 1933 (that's $125 in today's dollars.) Here's a pic of my grandmother.

It will help you not get overwhelmed.

For example, last week, Trump told his people that any of these opinions mean someone is a potential terrorist:

anti-capitalism,
anti-Christianity,
extremism on migration, race, or gender
hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, religion, and morality.

Note that there is no definition of "extremism."

This is what got him cancelled – not ill of the dead, but speculation about MAGA motives. “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said in his monologue.

Since early December, we've had about two feet of snow, but we also have had several 40F+ days, so it keeps melting. Today was a very warm day, and tomorrow will also be warm, but I think a layer of snow will persist on the grassy areas so that it gives the impression of a white Christmas. Not Mr. Trump's kind of white, thankfully.

Although we're an atheist/agnostic household, we still celebrate it secularly. This year we are staying home, since we went to Venice for Thanksgiving to see the in-laws. My sister, my niece, and my mother will be coming here for dinner and presents. We will be having roast lamb.

Life/family was stable enough that we did the near-impossible: went overseas for a week of vacation with the in-laws! This was unthinkable a few years ago.

We went to Venice, where the in laws have bought an apartment more or less along the top back of the fish shape that is the city. It was somewhat frustrating in that OMG we were in VENICE and also it was important to do Family Thanksgiving Interactions, and that doesn't work well with being a total immersion learning experience. But we managed to walk that tightrope fairly well.
