Augh. Supernatural (The Executioner's Song) T__T: I know I haven't had much to say about the show lately, but yes, still watching. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that I was on that ride until the wheels fell off. And episodes like this remind me why. Oh Deaaaan. Saaaam. If only consoling brother-hugs were enough to make everything okay. (And hilariously, as I'm typing this, my eyes are filling with tears. Whoo, Show, you still got it.)

Crocheting: I went back about five times and tried to figure out how I managed to make the sleeve-holes on that Swing Coat different sizes, and each time it turns out the same. I did not have this problem when I made one for the other niece. *throws up hands* Well, I have decided whatthehellever, I am just going to carry on. She's only a year old and has tiny little stick arms, and it's not meant to be worn all by itself anyway. It still looks fine and my mantra in this case is going to be "When in doubt and no one will notice, feel free to fudge it."  I need to move on with my life so I can finally get busy altering my finished Juliet Dress, which I am salivating to wear.

Finally filed my taxes. Yay. I have a bad feeling my refund is not going to be enough to fix my car. If that happens...I don't know. Maybe I'll just go completely insane and say screw the bills and groceries and go buy some pretty shoes. Pretty shoes make me feel better. :-(

And in other, not particularly relevant news: Got a call all the way from California the other day, my Dad's female cousin who is doing some geneology of his maternal side of the family tree. Apparently that branch was full "Robbers and thieves and drunks, women of ill-repute! Cathouse madams!" (She sounded horrified.) Also some folks who were BFF with Jesse James. (Though as my sister pointed out, considering the man's bloodthirsty rep, if they had been less than chummy Mr. James would have no doubt filled that particular twig full of lead.) I don't know why this amuses me. But it does.

Hello:-)

Still alive and kicking, with nothing particularly relevant to say. Randomness:

Life, crocheting, family, food, brain-farts, etc. )

So in conclusion, hey, watch this vid:-) Even if you've never watched Supernatural and don't give a hoot about the cast's shenanigans, I dare you not to chair-dance-It's contagious! Feel free to tell the maker (who doesn't know me, folks,) how awesome she is. (Note: Things I link to tend to get smacked down by the Copyright Police, so hurry.)

Though actually I'm merely a little snotty and wheezy now, not gushing sinus fluids and hacking up a lung like I was a few days ago. (Thank you, Robitussin! ) I am half blaming this on my attempt to clean up the basement last week, since Lord knows that carpet must be a mold factory. So I'm not making much progress. At this rate, I should have the basement cleaned by the time I'm fifty.

The good news:

I got to go to a giant outdoor flea market, where I found a couple selling enormous piles of random bolts of cloth ridiculously cheap. (I got six yards of a retro-flower patterned material and a bolt of black fabric for two bucks!)

I got a raise!

Not so good news:

Everytime I try to play the Sims, my laptop tries to overheat.

I cannot find a suitable crocheted skull motif small enough and easy enough to make my sister a belt like she asked for.

I dropped my wireless mouse and broke it all to hell.

I have to go to the funeral of my second cousin's husband tomorrow right after work. Whee.

******

La la la. Time to get my workclothes together and then to bed.

Coughing til I pee, my throat is raw, I'm congested, I'm fatigued, I suddenly have a snotty right eye. Just oodles of fun. But at least I am no longer deaf in my right ear. ( Not sure what was going on with that.)

But at least it distracts me, not only from my OMGDEAN NOOOOO Supernatural hangover, but also from some financial issues that I keep dancing around mentally and not thinking about because everything is going to be fine somehow la la la laaaaaa. *Dances away, coughing and whimpering*

Also I finally broke down and joined Ravelry  which luckily seems to have lots of free patterns. Wether I will ever actually make one of those free patterns... that is a good question. It's warm weather and I usually embroider during the summer, because I don't want something fuzzy and heavy smothering my legs. Unless it's a cat. I miss my cat:-(

Did ya miss me? (Don't answer that.)

Well, I had nothing particularly relevant to say, and also I was working on my Juliet Dress. I finished it yesterday and while it turned out great...it's very obviously not a dress-pattern for a person with a small frame. I'm a chunk, folks, but under the chunk is a short person with some tiny little bones. In the picture of the model wearing the dress, the sleeves are quite long. On me, with my little T-Rex arms, my hands completely disappear. On the model, the dress comes to about mid-thigh. On me, it's knee-length. But you know, she's probably five-ten or better, and I'm only five-three. *sigh* Well, I suppose I could sell it to re-coup the money I spent on the yarn. Pictures to come, soon as I get off my duff and get a new SD card for the camera that actually works.

In other news, still watching Hannibal and Supernatural, where Sam said in so many words, "Our obsessive attachment to each other has made bad things happen," and Dean heard "I've never really loved or needed you." And this is literally driving Dean to drink. And making me sad. Deeean. Saaaam.

My Hannibal reactions can be summed up with "Oh God, oh yuck, OMG DON'T GO IN THERE!"  Go to Cleolinda to see much more detailed and hilarious re-caps of the episodes.

Aaaaand, that's about all I got right now. Later:-)

Crocheting!:  I was ditty-bopping around the internet the other day, looking for interesting (and hopefully FREE,) crochet patterns, and I ran across this really beautiful crocheted Juliet Dress. I wanted it so bad I could taste it, so I finally broke down and paid the two bucks for the download. Right now the hardest part was printing the download. First I discovered my desktop downstairs is slower than cold molasses ( it's never been the same since I had it 'fixed',) and also it doesn't have Adobe Reader installed.  "Screw it," I said, "I'll just take my All-in-One PSC upstairs and plug it in to my laptop." Which involved a lot of crawling under a computer desk, unplugging things and inhaling musty basement dust-bunnies. But d'oh! Now I can't find the software disc! So I went to the HP website to install some basic drivers, and that took a while. Then my laptop battery ran out of juice and I had to plug it in. But finally the pattern PDF is printed and I have it in my hot little hands. There's nothing that says I'll actually be able to make the dress, since I've never crocheted an adult piece of clothing before, but I'm going to give it a whirl. And if it turns out a little too big or too small, (like in the errm, bosom area-curse your generosity, Puberty Fairy,) I'll just have my sister sell it for me on Facebook. But man, I hope it turns out perfectly sized so I can wear it myself.

Weather!: It got up to 53 degrees today! There's still a lot of snow on the ground, and we're supposed to have thunderstorms and possibly torrential rain tonight. I'm hoping we can have the 'rain' without the 'torrential' part, because sometimes, randomly, if the downpour is really extreme, the part of the basement closest to the Central Air unit gets wet. And Brother's got all of his household worldly goods from his burned-out apartment down there. And And, I am really not getting up in the wee hours to try to shuffle it all to the other side of the basement.

Taxes! They are prepared and done, and my refund is hopefully winging its way to my checking account.

Birthdays! Me and my father, and (other) Sister and her boy, went out to dinner with Oldest Sister for her birthday. It was a fun time, except that one of her pieces of fried chicken from the buffet was sorta...raw. Ew. I felt embarrassed like I cooked it myself, but she was okay with it.
While I was standing in line to pay, we met a young woman there with her husband and little boys, and she was excitedly telling us all about her recently-purchased thrift store console stereo. I was all, "Ooh, what brand? What year? Solid state or tubes??" and she kind of blinked like "I...don't know..? I just wanted to play records." But it was an interesting conversation, and at least now I know I'm not the only crazy person in the world excited by clunky forty year old cabinet-style stereo equipment.:-)

So this was my week. Well, that and babysitting my little neice, who is adorable and funny, but got a little fever and puked phlegm on the couch, poor baby. She also coughed in my face all day and half the night, so next week is likely to not be as entertaining. D-:

 (Pretend like you care, Internet.)

I like to crochet, and sometimes the things I make turn out pretty good. Here is my little niece (unhappily) modeling the crocheted Swing Coat I made for her forever ago. ( Note the camera-dodging and hiding against Daddy's legs. She liked the coat, hated the camera.)

This pattern was actually very easy, if time-consuming. The hardest part was crocheting around all the stitch-markers I had to use to make the shoulders.) Unfortunately I don't have a direct link to the pattern, but the magazine issue with the pattern can be acquired from here.

CLEOLINDA WROTE 'SLEEPY HOLLOW' FANFIC!    And I realize I have no Sleepy Hollow icons. But I should.

In other news, filled with Halloween Spirit, I broke down and bought some more grey yarn so I can finally finish that crocheting that spiderweb I started last year. (I'd love to show you the pattern, but it's mysteriously disappeared from the internet-I couldn't even find it with The Wayback Machine Archive. Good thing I printed it out.)

As to costumes, we're not exactly going with a theme this year: My young nephew, Poot, is going to be a zombie, his mother is dressing as a scary bunny, a la Frank from Donnie Darko. My little niece is going to be a piglet and I've finally decided to be...Willie Nelson. I've got a fake beard, a Western shirt downstairs, a red bandana to wear on my head, and I already come equipped with long braids.

I also made a chocolate cake with orange Halloween funfetti frosting. How much do I love this season?

Crocheting! I have a ton of odds and ends of yarn, so I bought a crochet pattern book One Skein Wonders and I've already finished a baby hat and sweater (which is actually a doll outfit, but everything I crochet, no matter how I try, turns out bigger than intended, so it's perfectly newborn sized,) and I'm working on a hat and a blanket. I think I'll give the blanket and hat to my coworker who is due around Christmas, and the little hat and sweater to my big biker nephew's girlfriend. Now watch, either nature will play a joke on us and put stems on the apples, or both of these kids will be a moose with a giant melon-head and nothing I made will fit. 'Squish' was born with a giant head-he had the salad spoon marks on his noggin for months-so that's a possibility, and Co worker is like five-eleven with hands like catcher's mitts. Well, here's hoping she has a little bitty husband to even out the genes.

Other things! Went to town with Sister in a fruitless search for a consignment store on Main that was actually open during the week (school clothes for Poot,) gave up and went looking at secondhand furniture instead. Somehow I wound up going halvesies on a newish recliner for my dad, which will be a joint Christmas present once we get it paid for, and here's hoping he doesn't try to buy himself one before then. ALSO, I've been lusting after a console stereo for quite some time now, so I half-jokingly said to the guy at the store, "Ha ha, don't suppose you all have any vintage stereos?"

"Oh sure, we run across those all the time," he said. "But they're really heavy, so we usually junk them rather than drag them back to the store."

I spluttered and staggered and I may have had a small aneuyrism. My face:  D-: But he did take my name and number, so here's hoping.
