OTW update

For those who haven't been following all the details, the Open Beta of the Archive of Our Own will be this Saturday, unless anything goes wrong between now and then. At that point, the invite queue will go live (type in your address to join the queue for an invite, or a get a friend to put your address in if you're away from the internet then). Also, all of the current Closed Beta users will get an invite for a friend - I think [personal profile] yvi and [personal profile] princessofgeeks both expressed interest, so let me know if you're still keen.

If you're willing to join the queue, I'd suggest doing that anyway - it just drops you out sensibly if you get an invite from elsewhere. If I just get one invite, I think I promised it to [personal profile] yvi first, but if I get another, I'll send it to you.

I'm not really a ficcer so I guess I have no reason to have an archive, but it makes me so happy to see people writing about this. I'm not involved in any way or anything, it just makes me go eeeeeee all to myself :)

if you want an account you can use it to do recs and keep bookmarks and so forth. The AO3 archive is more than just a place to upload fic. They want to turn it into a community with a bunch of interactive features. It's amazing.

I have already been using the bookmarks feature, and they're currently looking for input from users on how to improve the design of it - what info you see in both the detailed view and the short view of a bookmark.

It's a good news, I think. I've been digging around the site for quite some time already, commented on fis and such, and it seems like the site has lots of potential. At least, I haven't encountered an unworthy fic there, yet. :)

How do you enter the queue? I tried signing in with my OpenID but it didn't work, and I can't see anywhere to put an email address.

Sorry I wasn't clear - the queue won't actually be open to enter until Saturday. At that point, a large and obvious link should appear on the homepage.

If you're having problems with OpenID, it's probably worth opening a support request, since I think that's meant to be working. Ah, it appears that OpenID is currently only for people who already have an account, which seems a bit pointless. I'll raise that with someone.

Hey, cool! I've been trying to use WordPress to create an archive for my and [personal profile] rev_yurodivy's works, and this looks a lot like the kind of end result that I'm hoping for.

Do you know what it was based on, by any chance? Drupal maybe?

They've written it from scratch using Ruby on Rails. It's open source, so you could copy it and set up your own in theory, but it's not very easy to set up yet. Anything that's vaguely fanfic is welcome on the AO3, though.

The main transformativeworks.org website (for OTW campaigning stuff) uses Drupal.

Ah, Ruby on Rails. Very simple and powerful. Sadly, I'm stuck with commodity LAMP hosting right now. ^.^ Ah well, WordPress is awesome anyway!

Thanks for letting me know! And does "vaguely fanfic" include stories that cite something else as an inspiration?

The best way to get an official ruling would be to contact support, but I can't imagine anyone objecting, so long as each story has a fandom or fandoms it can be classified into.
