I've been making books. Would anyone like one? This particular set are... learning exercises. I'm quite pleased with them, they're functional and nice notebooks, but they're not up to standard for selling or exhibiting. Flaws (which may well not bother you) are: endpapers are a bit lumpy, the pages are not always nicely aligned with the covers (the green one is worst), I've not quite got the hang of marbled edges so there's a tiny bit staining to the edges of pages and there are some grey smudges in the marbled patterns. (Some pages may also be stuck together but you should be able to gently pull them apart.)

The blue one's already spoken for. Would anyone like one of the others? Free to a good home; I'm happy to post if you paypal me the postage cost.

Even though I long ago recovered from the worst of my voice issues, I still have a general compulsion to have a notebook close to hand. Comes of spending the best part of a year being unable to speak above a whisper and having to write down most of my conversations.

Hence, happy to take any colour and you can be assured that it will actually get used :)

BTW, when I've caught up on my weaving backlog, if you'd like a hand-woven belt of any kind, just ask.

I haven't moved :)
If you email me, I can send you a photo to get an idea of the colours I have.

How narrow is narrow? About 1cm?

Not sure I have any teal at present, but I've certainly got purple, and might have a blue with a bit of a sheen to it.

How do you feel about pink? I have some purple and pink that might work together.

It will be an inkle band rather than tablet woven (makes no difference from your point of view), as inkle bands aren't as thick, so will be more flexible in the hair.

How narrow is fairly narrow?

1cm, 2cm?

Oh, those are so beautiful even if they're not perfect. Are you sure you want to give them away? But if so, I would love to have one -- I'm happy with either colour. I will come along to one of the yuletide evenings even though I've had clashes all the ones so far.

I know how to do endpapers, but how do you marble the edges of pages? Hold the whole thing clamped together and dip it in as a block?

Well, they look very convincing on the outside - my knowledge of marbling is purely theoretical!
(It appears in my book of "Craft Bookbinding" which I taught myself years ago as a child when I wanted to 'make books', in the days before desktop publishing or print-on-demand were a thing -- all my work has been done out of scraps of old card and dressmaker's cloth and worn-out handkerchiefs for mull linings...)
