Random set of the day: Sea Claw 7
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1822 Sea Claw 7, released in 1995. It's one of 6 Aquazone sets produced that year. It contains 192 pieces and 2 minifigs, and its retail price was US$20.
It's owned by 1776 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

I just looked through the instructions on this, there is indeed a claw, and the way they achieve its function is pretty rad.
Chrome crystals. Nice.
And what happened to the other six editions? - Palutena
I think I had this one... Aquazone is a theme that I had a few sets indeed, but never got my full attention as trains and city in general had. Both the good and bad guys lol!
Curiously I was rumbling around my yellow parts storage box today and found these same printed parts in very good shape! Might do something with them! Let's see what lol
Aquazone was the best thing ever, wasn't it?
Loved the use of magnets in these sets.
The claw was cool and I absolutely love those blue translucent dome/cockpit pieces. I remember this coming in a rather large almost cube-like box unlike the traditional thin rectangle boxes.
Even though I think I liked the M tron and Blacktron 2 sets the most (in the grand scheme of my childhood), I had the most FUN and the best memories with Aquazone.
Rumor has it the other six Sea Claws are being held at Area 51.
Aquazone was a really ambitious theme, especially for its time. The sets really hold up in terms of design and playability.

I bought this set a month ago. Really nice set with some great functions. Aquazone was a refreshing theme back in the day.
Always Reminded me of SeaQuest DSV :)

I had some ovoviviparous once. But the doctor prescribed me some ointment and that cleared it right up.
I got this one, and I can confirm, that the claw works really well.

Along with the first eight Sea Sprints?

Yep (https://img.bricklink.com/ItemImage/ON/0/1822-1.png). I wrote about this a few months ago when 1737-1 (which was released with similar packaging, but also under a different number with normal packaging) was on RSOTD (https://brickset.com/article/51222/random-set-of-the-day-scorpion-detector). There were in total three sets with this type of packaging, the third being 6599-1.
in our LEGO shop I have seen plenty of its parts but never the full set.
The claw could be a bit more substantial, and not sure I understand the need for using magnets to hold a post box? The main item cockpit 6085 only appears in blue in there Aquazone sets in 1995, and in yellow/green in two Aquazone sets from 1997, which seems a shame as would look fantastic on a space set but the current $20 market value is a as expensive as the whole set!
I see Aquazone, I leave a like.

Many of the 90s themes were good because of their originality, creativity and imaginative design.
Now, sure the building techniques have improved, we've got more parts and colors, but the themes themselves are mostly boring licensed sets re-released over and over again to milk more and more money.
Beside Creator, Technic, City (however bad it's become), Hidden Side and Ninjago (currently their only 2 original fantasy themes), Lego is just thematic copycats with no originality of their own.

But what if 27 different Millennium Falcon's aren't enough, and we just need more of them?
I always quite liked the chunky semi-industrial look the Aquazone vessels had, but I think this one might cross the line over into being clunky

Simle: All of these were never on duty where you played (or weren't for sale to start with)

Currently, there are at least 20 and a half Millennium Falcons at varying scales (Playset, Mini, Midi, Microfighter, UCS, Advent Calandar, Promotional) that have been released as things you can build. I want to say there are also at least two keychains that have been made over the years as well, so surprisingly, that number is not too off. I say half because one is just the cockpit for a display piece based on Solo: A Star Wars Story, but it is technically part of the ship so it gets a half a Falcon from me.
