Random set of the day: Sea Sprint 9
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6125 Sea Sprint 9, released during 1995. It's one of 6 Aquazone sets produced that year. It contains 32 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$4/£3.25.
It's owned by 10,330 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $45.80, or eBay.

so the question is...
what happened to the 8 beforehand ?
How do you sprint underwater, exactly?
Especially without legs?
This is very goofy looking. I wonder how silly the previous 8 look?
I had this as a kid. I used the windscreen for a little makeshift TIE fighter, the propeller for a little makeshift airplane for Johnny Thunder, and the yellow tanks and cones for missiles for a little makeshift fighter jet. The printed tile on top was a little drone flying saucer that was bigger on the inside like a Mary Poppins bag.

First seven were destroyed by an ancient force, and the eighth was sent back in time to serve as a tiny little base for the resistance forces in a war long past.
This set was the first time I got those arm pieces - back then I thought the system was new for Aquazone (the turned trans-neon orange ones actually are). It was funny discovering how they dated back further and further, the more I discovered of old stuff...
The model has a surprisingly closed cockpit for sets of it's time, which was definitely appreciated.
Could have really used one of the Hydrolator Crystals though, I kept using the little sprue element from the chrome daggers as a replacement until I got a "real" crystal.
Oh and the Aquanaut is called Jock Clouseau in both Shop at Home and Mania Magazine.
Blocky submarine
Loved this set. One of my childhood favorites and I always loved the chrome daggers that came with it.
Set so incredible that Brickset multiplied the same comment praising it for emphasis

Wow, you really made use of every piece. That's the true way to play with Lego. I still get some (smaller) sets for the parts.
I had so much fun with this little sub. I would have the ship from 720 be a shipwreck for it to explore; the helipad on the back of the ship was a great place for it to set down, like a (much smaller) version of the submersible Alvin resting on the wreck of the titanic.
Hilarous to see this RSotD just a few days after I purchased my second copy of 6145.
This set is essentially the equivalent of/companion to 6110. Both are very cute and fun.
Seem to recall I removed the single propeller then added two on the back of those tanks, made them more than just overly elaborate flipper holders
Very cute!
Got this set in a random ebay job lot for my young son many years ago, and he absolutely loved it. We still have it now!

Sea Clunk 9
I think there might be a few breaches in the hull...
Some unusual parts which only lasted for a few years, but would be great to have again like all the claw parts with attachment 30014, plus octagonal cone which is fairly rare, rather than the endless obsession with accessory pieces.
Yeah, I thought this was cute, but didn't we all?
Oh, that first year of Aquazone. Even when it was bad, it was still pretty amazing.

I had so much fun with all those parts. The tanks especially got used in a lot of different builds
I got this one last year along with some other Aquanaut and Aquashark sets. I now only need the Sea Claw and accessory pack.
It's great for its size! It has most of the major features of all Aquanaut sets like the cockpit window, pontoons, propellor and grabber arm. The other features wouldn't fit (magnet arm and cargo hold) or would take too much budget (animal, bush). Even the minifig is fully decked out, no concessions done.
All it's missing is a crystal.
But still, this one is amazing for its budget and works just as great amidst the larger sets as it does as a proper sample of what Aquanauts are all about! :D
Huwbot are you watching me? I just found this in a bulk buy and added this set to my inventory yesterday!

Probably the same
This was the first set I built entirely on my own, with no help from my dad. I rebuilt it a couple years ago and it's still hanging around l
I still remember being blown away when I saw this on toy shelves. Of course, back in the pre-Internet days you had no idea what LEGO was going to release in the new year - you just had to show up at the toy store around January and see what they had.
Often my Toys R Us would put the smallest sets on the shelves weeks in advance of larger sets - I can remember finding this and King Kahuka's Throne on the shelf before I had even HEARD of Aquazone or Islanders, and both sets got me so excited for the forthcoming waves I thought I was going to lose my mind.
So yeah - good nostalgia around this one, and I maintain that the set itself is actually really good for the small number of pieces you're working with here.
I loved this set growing up. Aquazone was just such a cool line, and this was a great affordable entry point. One of the earlier sets in my Lego collection.
This was my first aquazone set, but I LOVE what they did with the dark blue cockpits. It really is a successor to space themes, and honestly would be pretty easy to swap over some engines to make it look properly space.
This feels like one of the last good color schemes of the 90s. Aquasharks was only OK, space around this time had lost it (though I do love the UFO theme, just not for color reasons). Spyrius (just ahead of this) was only OK, Unitron was terrible, Exploriens was OK but just Futuron season 2, Roboforce was awful, and Insectoids was kinda blah too.

I wish those octaganal parts had lasted longer.
One of my first Lego sets, still remember it fondly

Is the pilot named “Yorick”?
That's a small moving dome vehicle.

I always felt that these themes were extensions of the Space theme and part of it as well. Vehicles and ships exploring an alien, water covered planet and harvesting the crystal resources. What's not to like?
vividly remember opening this set on Christmas Day as a kid. just about a month ago I bought virtually the entire Aquazone year 1 and got to watch my kids get just as excited about the theme as i was.
i know opinions on this theme are split but man this is some of my favorite worldbuilding lego ever did

They were originally going to be space, called Seatron! There are a few pictures of the early models out there. Definitely has a space feel for sure, and it works well. Maybe I'll turn my next Crystal Explorer into a ship, it's definitely so close.
Another one of those sets that I had and didn't realise it. I must have got its parts in one mixed lot or other that I obtained in my teenage years, but I guess I only had eyes for the bigger sets from them at the time (and was less Bricklink-savvy than I am now so didn't know to look up the unique parts specifically), so all the pieces of this set just kinda ended up in my collection without me entirely realising it. It was only some years after that when I started sorting out my loose pieces to downsize my collection that I discovered that I could build this entire set since I had every one of its' pieces.
Wasn't the only small set - or even the only 1995 Aquazone set - that was the case with either: I found I had 6115 Shark Scout at the same time, too. In hindsight I think their parts probably came from the lot I got 6900 Cyber Saucer from in 2005, but who knows for certain by this point?
Still, it was a neat little discovery when I eventually realised I had them xD

The 8 were used up to form the Octagon window.

yes!! it's not a great sub, but it is good enough as a sub.
The kicker here are all those great pieces!! I was really missing these clear cockpits for classic space until I realized I had a bunch of them from Aquazone. the fence piece and silver daggers go great in castle. I don't think you could ask for more from this size of a set (except the aforementioned crystal of course).
I loved this theme when I was a kid. It was so evocative and cool. It's also the first official theme made after the classics (town, space, castle, and pirates).
I had six Aquazone sets in my childhood, none of them duplicates, and this was, by piece-count, the largest one--which is rather impressive, I think. Partly because of that, partly because Jock Clouseau was named character, partly because this was my first non-villain, it's my avatar of Aquazone.
I now have two of them, because it is very affordable.

Of course, Pirates came along after Space, Castle, and Town were well-established.

And Pirates was the first theme to stray from the classic Smiley. But it really does get treated like it was one of the original themes. Look at the five coins they made. Space, Castle, Town, _Pirates_, and a giant version of the classic gold-chrome coin.
