Professional Trouble-Maker and Shit-stirrer - "Have warped mind, will travel..."
I live in Australia and work in advocacy for women with disabilities. I have cerebral palsy and hurtle around in my scooter and keep the riff-raff (!?) at bay with my very non-medical looking purple quad cane. My main passion in life is for books, books, and many more books. I may one day be found buried under a pile of books from a pulled-over bookcase (although that is rapidly ceasing to be a worry due to the piles of bills, magazines, journals and printouts of articles that are colonizing the space in front of 3 bookcases - I can't get close enough to overbalance and pull them over on myself...)

"If you are whole, you will argue: Why wouldn't they rejoice?
Don't the poor miserable buggers all want to be like me?
Not necessarily, no. The arrogance of the able-bodied is staggering.
Yes, maybe we'd like to be able to get places quickly, and carry
things in both hands, but only because we have to keep up with the
rest of you... We would rather be just like us and have that be alright."
- The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver

"The reasonable [woman] adapts [her]self to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to [her]self. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable [woman].
-George Bernard Shaw 1856-1950

bibliobibuli: There are people who read too much, bibliobibuli.
I know some who are constantly drunk on books, as other men are
drunk on whisky or religion. They wander through this most
diverting and stimulating of worlds in a haze, seeing nothing and
hearing nothing. [H. L. Mencken's Notebook 71, 1956]
