Full Name: Ian Nathaniel Greene
Birthday: October 20th
Age: 25
Sex/Gender: Male
Orientation: Heterosexual
Current Residence: Richmond, VA, United States
Religion: Atheist
Online Handle: Lovecraftian Crow
Personality: Ian is an introvert and a bit of a shut in, preferring to communicate with people from a distance via phone or internet than any in person interaction. However, he is not agoraphobic, and is happy to go to certain places of interest as long as he's left alone. Though extremely shy, he is kind-hearted and wants to help people when he can, though he usually can't bring himself to become involved in such situations without the anonymity of the internet to shield him.
He's not without his own problems though. He's hopelessly addicted to anything that will give him a good feeling. Ian lives to be high or get a good buzz, and despite his shy demeanor he has plenty of sources to get what he wants, which usually consists of strong painkillers, alcohol and anti-anxiety medications (Ironically, those do nothing for his public anxiety.). When he can get it, he is also hopelessly addicted to blood; part of his reason for being so reclusive. However, he never takes blood from anyone unwilling, and without personal relationships, nobody is willing.
Normally he's not very open to new experiences, but if given enough incentive he may be willing to try things that are slightly outside of his comfort zone. He can also be coaxed by his mother, who he still maintains a very close relationship with. His favorite new experiences involve books, films and music; all things he can experience fully by himself. He is highly intelligent and his tastes vary greatly; all the way from works created for children to college level materials. This also helps him greatly in hiding his addictions and preventing himself from being caught with illegal substances.
His addictions are partially coping mechanisms for his extreme depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and the stresses of daily life. He believes that everyone thinks very poorly of him regardless of what they say, and in general he believes his life is worthless. Without them he would be completely unable to function from day to day, even though they hinder him severely when in full effect. He sympathizes greatly with people who suffer in any way, particularly the way he does, but has no idea how to help them cope. He knows his own coping methods are beyond unhealthy, and would never recommend them to anyone.
He is very imaginative, possibly due to his isolation, though he doesn't fancy himself an artist. He regularly keeps a hand-written journal filled with not only his life but thoughts, ideas, flights of fancy and everything in between. His journals are very detailed, and as such he as accumulated a shelf full over the years, though he rarely goes back and reads them. He doesn't believe they have any worth to anyone other than himself no matter what or how much he writes. His journals are his only outlet for his creativity.
His representation of himself differs depending on how he's communicating with someone. Behind the anonymous veil of the internet he feels a bit more confidence and is able to communicate more freely. In fact, text is his preferred method of communication, period. He becomes nervous during phone calls, and during public meetings he sometimes becomes so nervous he shakes and can't bring himself to speak. Despite these differences, he is almost always truthful about himself. He just leaves out the parts about addiction.
History: Ian was born a healthy baby boy to Carol and David Greene on a chilly morning in October. He was a relatively easy birth, and both of his parents were very loving and nurturing. For all intents and purposes Ian had a relatively normal childhood with parents who loved him and surroundings that encouraged healthy growth and development, though he did sometimes get lonely being an only child. He even had several good friends in school, whom he often arranged to play with.
When he hit puberty troubles began. It was a slow process, but Ian became more withdrawn. He spent less and less time with his friends and more time shut up in his bedroom. His grades in school remained good, but nevertheless, his parents were concerned enough to take him to see a counselor. He spent most of his teen years seeing counselors and psychiatrists, but his problems continued to get worse despite their best efforts. By the end of high school he had completely abandoned his friends and shrunk in on himself. The only people he continued to have a functional relationship with were his parents, especially his mother, but they didn't know what else to do for him.
Once he graduated he left to attend college at the University of Virginia. For a while his life regained a sense of normalcy, and though he was still lacking severely in the social department, he did well in college for a while; studying literature and taking various writing courses, computer and technology courses. Ian even managed to form a relationship with a young lady, Sarah Mitchell. However, soon he fell in with the wrong crowd. Sarah tried to deter him from the changes she saw emerging in his life--the drugs and the drinking--but those things made him feel better than she ever had. When she gave him an ultimatum, he chose to continue with his new lifestyle, leaving both her and college behind after a few years to move to Richmond.
He managed to get a decent apartment in Richmond, and began to work out of it fixing computers for neighbors and friends of neighbors. Word of mouth spread fast, and soon he found himself learning how to work on other electronics as well to expand his business. For the most part he was able to make enough to both live on and fuel his addictions, which included hardcore painkillers, anxiety medication, muscle relaxers and alcohol. No one knew the full extent of his addictions, not even his mother, who he was closest too.
It was during his college years when he discovered that he could absorb the blood of others through his skin and get a euphoric high from it, which both disturbed and delighted him. He never told anyone, and though he suspects this is probably why he developed his other addictions, he doesn't like to dwell on it. Riddled with depression, anxiety and low self-esteem, he simply wants something that will make him feel good on a regular basis.
Special Ability: Ian is able to absorb the blood of others through his skin and is immune to most bloodborne diseases. Blood gives him a euphoric sensation like nothing else, and once he gets his hands on it, it's hard for him to get enough. It does more for him than any drug man has ever made, but it doesn't provide him any sustenance.
