🎓 Erasmus+ turns 40 in 2027. What will the next programme look like? This week in plenary, Members of the European Parliament debate and vote on Parliament's position on Erasmus+ for 2028-2034. The European Commission proposed that the next Erasmus+ would cover education and training, youth and sport, and integrate the volunteering opportunities and solidarity activities of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). 🔎 The report of Parliament's Culture and Education Committee (CULT) calls for: 🔹 Budget of €47.38 billion, against the Commission's proposed €40.8 billion (in current prices). 🔹 Distribution of financial envelope among 3 policy fields: education & training (74.6 %), youth & volunteering (15 %), sport (4.1 %), and certain subfields. 🔹 Visibility and accessibility for volunteering and solidarity initiatives. 🔹 Financial support mechanisms that take into account differences between host countries, such as living and housing costs. 🔹 Target of at least 20 % of mobility participants to be people with fewer opportunities. 📝 Read more in our plenary note (available in 6 languages) ↓ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gerER72b #EPlenary

Climate change is putting historic monuments, archaeological sites and cultural landscapes at risk. 🇪🇺 The European Union is a pioneer in supporting research on how climate change affects cultural heritage, yet large-scale implementation of effective adaptation measures is still lagging. 🔎 This week, the STOA Panel will look at heritage preservation from a technological angle and discuss the findings of its upcoming study, which examines the most promising tools for protecting cultural assets. Co-authors Dr Johanna Leissner and Dr Jermina Stanojev will give an overview of available technologies that can be deployed at scale and turned into effective, practical solutions for the preservation of cultural heritage in the EU. 📺 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗔 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟮𝟮 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝟵:𝟯𝟬 𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗧: https://lnkd.in/ent22y69

Almost 1 in 4 children in the EU are at risk of poverty or social exclusion. That's 19.3 million children. 🧸 While Member States are primarily responsible for combating child poverty, the EU supports and complements their efforts through: - policy coordination - legislation within its competences - financial instruments 🎯 Tackling child poverty is an EU priority. In May 2026, the European Commission adopted the first‑ever EU anti‑poverty strategy. The Commission also presented measures to strengthen the European Child Guarantee, established in 2021, which is the EU's main tool to tackle child poverty. 🔎 What is the European Parliament doing? Parliament scrutinises the Commission's anti‑poverty agenda. In February 2026, it called for a comprehensive EU strategy to eradicate poverty by 2035 at the latest, with a particular focus on children. MEPs also called for the full implementation of the European Child Guarantee and a dedicated budget of at least €20 billion for the Guarantee in the next EU long-term budget for 2028‑2034. 📊 What about funding? EU funds, notably the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), play a central role in implementing the European Child Guarantee. Looking ahead, funding for measures to combat child poverty will depend on negotiations on the next EU long-term budget, known as the MFF. 📌 On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, find out more about how the EU helps to tackle child poverty: https://lnkd.in/eTVAYR_5

🔎 What is in the new US–Denmark–Greenland agreement? In short, this agreement allows the US to increase its military presence in Greenland and blocks certain third countries from having a military presence or investing in critical companies there. As far as Denmark is concerned, experts praised it for extricating itself from a period of coercive US diplomacy over Greenland, without significant concessions and with reinforced national feelings.
