I start this reflection feeling frustration at not doing more, not reflecting more, not having focused on making progress.

Then I realize that when unexpected events arise, progress on specific pursuits, especially if they are not core to the routine of everyday life, will have to wait. As long as I take time to confirm that I am not actively setting things aside or deferring them for artificial reasons, that is ok.

Thankfully, I was still able to make progress in the midst of a slower, more sad week than expected.

Build community and support events: I was able to host an event for a volunteer group I am now a Major Contributor for, and have a good transition meeting where we added 2 members to the group, and will keep efforts going to keep the group active and growing.

New Physical & health list item: "Monthly physical challenge" I was able to get out and have at least a couple of walks, and attempt to use some equipment I have on hand to test myself gently to see if I might be up for the GoRuck Tribe challenge for the year. My test "ruck" went just slightly better than I expected, so now I just have to figure out how to afford the annual fee, then how I will schedule the workouts each month. I can't argue that I don't need more of a physical challenge, I just want to ensure that I am building gradually and safely enough that I don't risk injury.

Get started with geocaching: I created an account today and download the app, so I have a start to the process, with next expected step being to confer with friends to see where to start in finding and recording geocaches. I'll keep hope alive we might be able to find 1 closer to the end of this month, but starting in February is more realistic, so there's time to plan for all weather eventualities.

New Relationship & Playtime item: "Host 12 gatherings" I started reorganizing things at home in preparation for being able to host evenings, dinners, and weekend gatherings with friends, once we get the rest of the preparations completed.

Other than that, next week is expected to also be slow, quiet, and possibly sad, so I am preparing to get what we can done and figure out what the rest of January will look like.

While I have done journaling infrequently in the past few years, I have never maintained a blog, so I am finding the task daunting. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to add more than just functional updates, but those can always be a starting point for weekly updates.

December ended feeling more busy and chaotic than I expected, with plans for the Hanukkah and Christmas holidays being very subdued. I was happy to have time with family, and enjoyed gatherings with friends, but fighting illness slowed everything down and felt like it added chaos that made it difficult to feel rested during the week I had off from work.

Where making 101 list progress was concerned, it was nice to take time to contemplate the kinds of things I wanted to add to such a list, though I have not had a chance to finish the Passion Planner process of reviewing goals and values, especially for this year, as a way to add context to pursuing the items on the list.

A dear friend gave me a set of seasonal bookmarks for the holidays, which will be excellent for reading the 30 books I’ve added as a goal. I have not yet selected which book to use one on first, but I have a few physical books on hand that I’m reading along with a handful of digital books. I did get to add some books to my GoodReads list, so I have more things to choose from, but I expect I’ll need to actually schedule time to read to make progress. 😆

I did get to start more physical training, with walks, exercises, and getting some of my PT exercises going for the year, which was a rather nice way to start the year. For better-or-worse, it did highlight how much I have been putting my physical activity “at the end of the list” and leaving it so far down the list that I would never actually take time to do more training or exercising to build myself again. With a solid balance of cajoling and encouragement from partners, I’m planning on doing more training this year, to see what I can build for strength and flexibility.

I’m bummed that it does not look like I’ll be able to make a yoga class in January, so I’ll have to do some yoga at home and see if I can double up in February.

I was very happy to attend an event at the end of the vacation week, and thrilled and satisfied to have a fantastic scene with partner, along with a surprise tasting and then a scene with another partner that I had not planned. A much bigger night than expected, which was a wonderful way to start the year.

Where Kung Fu practice is concerned, I did get to do some practicing with a classmate on a weapons form, confusing though it is, so hopefully I’ll have the basic framework down for class on Wednesday, especially if we get to practice again this week.

Being able to focus on the list the past 2 weeks have highlighted how easy it is to let all of the things listed slip in the face of work, so I will be considering how to align that balance this month especially, as I never want to revisit the “losing myself” practice that I started last year with ever again.
