[sticky entry] Sticky: Hello!

welcome! (click me)
Sim/Simmy, 25+, she/they demigirl, southeast Asian, EN/FIL/日本語

This journal is mostly about fannish interests (animanga, video games), some cool links I find in places, and my personal life.

I also post about my own art and fanfiction, stuff like updates and processes. I swear in my posts a lot, so beware if that makes you uncomfy, but I promise I don't bite.

This journal has a mix of public and access-locked posts. Public posts are mostly fannish in nature, and life updates I don't mind others seeing; fandom opinions that are more controversial, and personal posts that are either sensitive, or reveal my location beyond which country I'm from are access-locked.

Access requests can be sent via DM or commented below; I'm likelier to accept if we've interacted a bit before and have similar-ish interests/vibes. I also initiate giving access myself depending on my mood, but if you'd rather not have it, just let me know. I would also appreciate it if you could check my BYF/DYF just to make sure we're on the same page as to what kind of person I am before connecting. The tl;dr is that I'm queer, sex positive, anti-censorship/ship and let ship.

Feel free to say hi in the comments below, or in any post that strikes your fancy! Always happy to meet people. ♥

I swear I'm not like a huge Ado fan as my 2 Ado posts this week would suggest, but... the way my jaw dropped when I saw the words 'Soldier game' and 'Ado' together on Youtube... God, I miss Love Live, and LLSIF. I can't still can't believe KLab fucked everyone over by going EOS, saying we can transfer our shit to their new game, then killing the new game just a few weeks after releasing it on global. Who does that??? Who???

More embeds in the cut below; 398 words )
Snowflake Challenge: A flatlay of a snowflake shaped shortbread cake, a mug with coffee, and a string of holiday lights on top of a rustic napkin.

Challenge #8: Talk about your creative process.

Hmm, my creative process is kind of all over the place...! If inspiration suddenly strikes, I drop everything and start doing that (or at least resist the urge until I can't hold it in anymore if I'm doing something else more important).

Happy Oshi no Ko Season 3 day!!! I have actually finished the manga for Oshi no Ko (read the end point of S2 up until the ending, to be more precise), so even with all the infamy surrounding the succeeding parts of the story, I still very much look forward to it being animated/adapted, mostly because OnK's art style is Delicious.

Reaction post for Episode 1, obvious spoilers for S1 and 2, but no manga spoilers. Very minimal editing happening here so it sounds kinda unhinged because I was typing them up as I go, lol.

420 words )

...earlier than expected, too!! I'm mildly surprised because I just finished my final chapter for the Blue Lions Big Bang (still just a draft; getting it beta-d), so I thought I'd be pretty dang pooped. Not to mention I'm a huge procrastinator. Woahhhh.

At first I was kind of dreading the thing because I've never written the ship before and was like, "oh man why'd I go and offer that, what if I don't do it justice and the recipient hates it," but the words just flowed easily and I ended up really enjoying writing their dialogue and dynamic.

I'm excited for when works are revealed!! I really do hope they like it, but if not... uh... I like it. And that's the most important thing! (+1 to things I say to console myself)

Snowflake Challenge: A pair of ice skates hanging on a wood paneled wall. Pine boughs with a few ornaments are stuffed into the skates.

Challenge #7: LIST THREE (or more) THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF. They don’t have to be your favorite things, just things that you think are good. Feel free to expand as much or as little as you want.

This is really hard as I have bad self-esteem and you'll probably see that some of these are based on how other people validated me through their own perceptions, and how I was merely influenced by those, but I will try:

  1. I like my sense of humor. I think I'm pretty damn funny. Well, not by myself, but when I have someone to bounce off on.
  2. I like my taste in music! Some genres I like are k-pop, j-pop/j-rock, indie, alt rock, pop punk, and new wave. My recent post with music recommendations was well-received, which felt really good. (Even if it wasn't, I would still think my music taste is the bee's knees.)
  3. I like that I have thoughts and can sometimes articulate them. A lot of times they're not 100% comprehensible or meaningful (just variations of "wow I loved this" or "wow this sucks") but I think it's more about having thoughts about things and putting them out there, or talking about them with someone. I think that's important, especially during times when people make others feel like it's bad to have an opinion or to be outspoken.
  4. I like that parents seem to like me a lot. (My own parents not included.) Idk why that is, exactly, but my friends' parents and my partner's mom like me even though I'm not like... the perfect child. I guess it's just because I'm polite and treat their kids nicely? Lol. It does feel a bit weird when my friends say, "Oh my mom didn't like this other friend," because it's like... damn, what did they do to be disliked?
  5. I like that I'm semi-decent at rhythm games. I think it's a cool skill to show off to non-rhythm gamers.
  6. I like that my former coworkers remember me as someone with a good work ethic. This is not entirely true, I'm not a square, but I do take pride in being communicative and being as thorough as possible with my work, as it was both client-facing and customer-facing.

I think I have some friends here who speak Japanese or are learning, so I hope this is of any interest :"D

I came across a post on Bluesky that Dr. Wes Robertson's slang dictionary has been added to the New Jisho website. Dr. Wes Robertson is a content creator who frequently discusses the Japanese language, notably slang, and linguistics. I mostly see him on Tiktok but he is also on Youtube and Instagram.

It's also fascinating to note that this is New Jisho, a successor to the EN-JA-EN dictionary site, Jisho, by the same creator. New Jisho is currently in beta and was created due to several requests for the current Jisho (that's apparently 15 years old, by the way) that became hard to implement without literally just remaking the site instead. Spaghetti code, I guess?

Anyway, once New Jisho has dark mode, I might swap my current bookmark to that, instead. A shame they don't have a mobile app though; on iOS, I still use the app called "Japanese" (yes that's literally the name) to look up words but it's last update was 6 years ago. 💀

Snowflake Challenge: A warmly light quaint street of shops at night with heavy snow falling.

Challenge #6: Top 10 Challenge

Oooh, hmm, Top 10... Let's go with top 10 songs in my Liked Songs playlist. I currently have 330 lol.

Post will be under a cut because I will include Youtube embeds for almost every item :"D I have also included some bonus songs at the end of the post because I have poor self-control this is my journal and I do what I want <3 Song languages include Japanese, Korean, and English.

This goes so hard oh my god. Ado x Chibi Maruko-chan was Not on my 2026 bingo card (or on my 2025 one for that matter, as it looks like the cover audio was released on 2025-12-29 and the music video itself was posted less than a day ago).

I love Chibi Maruko-chan and I miss watching it on the TV. My mom made me stop watching it because Maruko acted like a li'l brat and she didn't want her attitude to rub off on my little brother, who was around 2 years old at that time. Idgaf mom she's fucking hilarious. /lh

In other news, Sousou no Frieren S2 is starting later this week!!! Toho Animation just posted this video of some more clips of the anime to the new opening song, "lulu." by Mrs. GREEN APPLE. I'm so excited! The animation is still superb and the lines made me emotional. Himmel...!

I read the manga starting from where Season 1 left off, but to be honest, my memory is so bad that when I watched the teasers, I couldn't tell what part they were adapting. That's probably for the best since I'll be experiencing it almost as if I'm an anime-only fan lmao.

The art itself
Todoroki Shouto birthday art

Happy birthday to Shouto! I did this super quick so it looks kinda sloppy. I really love timeskip Shouto's hair style, and more mature jawline.

I was in such a hurry because I saw 1/11 art at around 11:35 PM and was like, oh shit, I forgot all about Shouto day!! so I got to sketching reeeeal fast (amazed that I got his face shape right the first time when I kept on struggling just last week). When I was about to upload the pic, I noticed there weren't a lot of posts on his Bluesky birthday tag yet.

That's when I realized it just turned 1/11, and I'm early, not late. Anyway, happiest of birthdays to the coolest, kindest baby boy; I love him so much :"D

Some journal updates + resources! -- Icons & mood themes because my journal's currently on paid time. Yippeeee

  • I went ham and added so many icons to my account. Currently sitting at over 100/150 now. At first, I got real excited while icon shopping, but then I realized, "wait a minute, I can make my own icons, too..." so now uhhh we got a real hoarder problem on our hands. 150 slots's going to stop being enough at this point.
  • I added a custom mood theme thanks to [personal profile] kissed who compiled/preserved some adorable mood themes formerly posted on LiveJournal her site. The good thing about custom mood themes is that, once I've applied it, it stays like this even after my paid time expires. It's just that I can't upload another custom mood theme after, nor can I switch out of it (I wouldn't be able to use the custom theme again until I resume paid time).

Here is a guide to installing a custom mood theme for those without the means to self-host:

I really recommend doing this on a computer unless you hate yourself... This also requires paid Dreamwidth time.

795 words; instructions + some notes )

Anyway, I hope this helped! Sorry if it's long-winded or complicated; feel free to direct any questions in the comments. Also, this is just how I did it; there's probably a more efficient way than this :"D If yes, I'd be happy to know what worked (or didn't work) for you. Hope you enjoy using custom mood themes!!

Snowflake Challenge: A close up shot of an owl ornament hanging amidst pine boughs..

Challenge #5: In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

I took so long to do Challenge 4 that they already put out Challenge 5 💀 Sorry for taking up more Reading List space!

Hmm I get asked this pretty often and I always think of stuff I'd never buy for myself but would gladly get as a gift, and how I should really make that list, but I keep on forgetting to do it, and now I've even forgotten what I was supposed to put in it.

Anyway. Three things.

  1. Fanart of one of my AO3 fics? I'd like to experience it at least once. I mean I guess I have one on the way since I'm part of a big bang, but it kind of doesn't count since it's literally the event mechanic lol
  2. An animatic of Todobakudeku to the song "I Want My Boyfriends to Kiss" by Ashnikko. LMAO I'd do it but that's...! A lot of drawing I'm not particularly good at!!! (Never been good at drawing kissing scenes)
  3. gif icons like the one I'm using for this post for any of these fandoms (HeroAca, Persona 3/5, Hunter x Hunter, Spy x Family...) :D I have less than 50 icon slots left and I clearly have a hoarding problem, but gif icons are so cool to me...

Challenge #4: Rec The Contents Of Your Last Page

Any website that you like, be it fanfiction, art, social media, or something a bit more eccentric!

Oh man, I struggled with this challenge lol. This is especially weird as I am like, terminally online, so I should be able to come up with something, right?

Hmm. One of the things I like doing is reading myself into rabbit holes, so that's good ol' Wikipedia, fandom wikis (bless the people who work hard to keep them up-to-date AND provide the exact source!!), Fanlore, and TV Tropes.

In the same vein, data mine sites are also super cool. I dunno if other games have these (with the exception of live service games that do have datamines but mostly for providing leaks/build data), but FE: Three Houses and FE: Three Hopes have one each, albeit the Hopes one is discontinued so it's kind of janky/incomplete. I like using them to read the side conversations between characters because it's so easy to forget things with a huge cast + multi-route game.

Data mine sites are super helpful for writing fanfics, not just for fact-checking, but also for inspiration purposes, because of the little factoids that crop up. Like, this character lives in a place known for dairy products but doesn't particularly like this cheese dish, but the character I ship him with likes that dish. Woah. Lightbulb moment!

Last year, I started using Ellipsus and also tried out 4thewords for writing. I stopped using 4thewords because the quotation marks turn out straight and not the "smart quotes" kind which was inconsistent with the rest of the fic I had already written, but I did end up writing a lot in the few days I tried it! If you're the kind who doesn't mind straight quotes and likes to gamify your hobbies, I think it's pretty good. I stick with Ellipsus because I like the UI and the snippet generator :)

Also, one tab I constantly have pinned now since I post lots on Dreamwidth is HTMLTidy; it lets me write with a rich text editor that converts to HTML so I can post raw HTML into DW easier. I don't really switching between DW's Rich Text Editor to Raw HTML because it sometimes messes up the formatting. If I don't have to use pics though, I just type straight into Dreamwidth using Markdown.

Me the past few days, when I accidentally made that Dabi playlist: Damn, it'd be so cool if someone made an edit of him with this song. Too bad I'm not really skilled at video editing.

Me earlier today: Actually, what if I—

Well, there you have it. A 33-second edit of MHA Dabi that I spent a good 8 hours on, edited using my phone because I am dumb and forgot I have a wholeass tablet where things would have been easier. (Spoilers for S7 and S8 of My Hero Academia)

Commentary, 417 words )

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it! I'm already thinking about another edit I wanna make (also MHA—TogaChako this time!) The cogwheels in my brain are spinning. But it's also berating me for procrastinating on an upcoming fandom event check-in. Oops.

I icon shopped from various DW communities the whole day and got inspired to make icons myself. I haven't slept yet.

Anyway, check them out at [community profile] joicon 💞 There's only 1 post so far, but I'll slowly work on it.

Recently mentioned that I got a new third-party iPad pencil—here's my output when I put it to the test (☆▽☆)

Snowflake Challenge: A warmly light quaint street of shops at night with heavy snow falling.

Challenge #3: Write a love letter to fandom. It might be to fandom in general, to a particular fandom, favourite character, anything at all.

I mentioned somewhere how fandom had become an inalienable part of my life, and the same is true for shipping. I'm a multishipper by nature but some ships just have this chokehold on me that I couldn't leave alone, so have some cheesy letters addressed to my favorite ships.

My current fixation (BKDK/TDBKDK) not included.

1,010 words )

As mentioned in this post (🔐), I was inspired by an irl friend to do weekly R.E.P.O.R.T posts (Reading, Eating, Playing, Obsessed, Recommending, and Treating). My life's pretty boring on most days so writing about it might be a bit tough (but not any less verbose), but I hope the habit sticks.
