Every day, millions of IVs are placed in patients around the world. And a large share of first attempts don't succeed. A 25-country survey of 712 patients and caregivers found first-attempt insertion failed in 40% of adults and 64% of children. (Cooke et al., PLOS ONE, 2018) We talk about this like it's an operational hiccup. It isn't. 👤 Patients Over half of adults in the survey rated insertion as moderately painful or worse. For children, repeated attempts meant repeated needle sticks — and repeated distress. 🩺 Clinicians Every failed attempt means trying again, reassuring an increasingly anxious patient, and time pulled away from other care. 🏥 Hospitals Failed insertions mean more staff time, more supplies used, and delayed starts to treatment. This is never "just" an IV. #VascularAccess #PatientSafety #HealthTech #Nursing

At VeinTech, we're used to pushing for better healthcare outcomes every day - but over the past few weeks, we've been putting that commitment to the test in a slightly different way. Together with our friends and fellow innovators at the Herdsman MedTech Innovation Hub, we've been counting push-ups, encouraging each other, and raising awareness for mental health through this year's The Push-Up Challenge. Over the past few weeks, we've swapped desks for push-ups, challenged each other to keep moving, and helped raise awareness and support for mental health across Australia. Whether it was squeezing in push-ups between meetings, turning friendly competition into motivation, or simply showing up each day, the challenge has been a great reminder that looking after our health includes both body and mind. A huge congratulations to everyone at the Hub who got involved. Safe to say there might be a few sore arms around the hub this week 💪 Donate to the Herdsman MedTech Innovation Hub team here: https://lnkd.in/gDdpxmEV lubdub.ai Earflo CoraMetix
