The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation is calling for the implementation of mandated staffing ratios to replace the broken 'care minutes' program in aged care.

The increases to minimum award wages under the Nurses Award 2020 mark the culmination of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation's landmark Aged Care Work Value Case at the Fair Work Commission, which successfully argued that the increasingly complex and highly skilled work performed by aged care workers had been historically undervalued due to gender-based assumptions.

The federal government has launched Australia’s first National Nursing Workforce Strategy, outlining a roadmap for a sustainable nursing workforce that adapts, innovates and excels to deliver evidence-based health and wellbeing outcomes for all Australians.

Four months into her role as the inaugural NSW Chief Midwife, Donna Garland, has highlighted the importance of raising the profile of midwives statewide, as well as tackling challenges facing the profession.

Whether the issue is staffing, infrastructure, patient transport, equipment or workforce attraction and retention, our strength comes from sharing our experiences and solutions. No nurse, midwife or carer should feel they are facing these challenges alone.

Watch to learn how as a staunch advocate of work health and safety, Darren’s actions helped secure 24/7 security measures in the Grafton and Maclean emergency departments.

Later this month, Dusty and his mum, NSWNMA member Sarah, will be highlighting the need for paediatric services in rural communities. Together, they’ll walk 540km from Warren to Canberra raising funds and awareness. We’ll be cheering them on, and you can too!
