NSW Rural Fire Service's first operational deployment to Europe ✈ As France experiences one of its most severe fire seasons in decades, NSW Rural Fire Service's CH-47D Chinook helicopter and Bell 412 reconnaissance and support aircraft have departed for France. The aircraft were transported in partnership with the Australian Defence Force and have a team of 24 highly skilled aviation personnel, including pilots, engineers, maintenance and support specialists, who will help support wildfire suppression operations. We look forward to their safe return. 💛

More than 400 new social homes are on the way for Macquarie Park. 🏡 This latest stage of the Midtown at Mac Park project will deliver 519 new homes, including 401 new social homes across two residential buildings. Expected to be completed in 2029, the new homes will provide more people with access to safe, modern housing close to public transport, jobs, schools and essential services. Councils across eligible NSW locations can now apply for funding through the Better Open Spaces Program to help deliver upgrades to: • parks and sports fields • swim sites • town squares and civic plazas. Grants between $150,000 and $2 million are available per project. The funding helps councils invest in the local spaces that keep communities active and connected as more homes are built. For the first time, TAFE NSW Campbelltown will have dedicated electrotechnology training facilities, helping meet growing demand for electricians in south-west Sydney. Training facilities are also being upgraded in Cessnock, Dubbo, Tamworth, Wellington and Wyong. We're also supporting businesses to build training capability, upskilling teachers in areas like solar, battery storage and electric vehicles, and creating new pathways for students interested in renewable energy careers. Electrical tradespeople play a key role in powering our homes, businesses and communities, from maintaining essential infrastructure to installing the technologies that support a cleaner energy future. This means more people can train locally for jobs that are needed now and into the future. We’re supporting organisations that are keeping food out of landfill.🌱🥗 We’ve awarded more than $10 million in total to 51 projects across NSW that are tackling food waste, expanding food recycling and helping rescue good food for people who need it. The funding includes: • $4.71 million for 6 projects helping councils introduce or expand weekly Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) services to more than 118,000 households. This includes bins, kitchen caddies, education campaigns and service audits. • $3.14 million for 18 projects that will help around 4,200 businesses and 2,000 staff improve how they separate and recycle food waste. • $2.25 million for 27 food rescue projects, providing charities with infrastructure such as refrigerated trucks, vans and cool rooms to deliver more food to communities, particularly in regional NSW where demand is highest. This will help divert food waste from landfill, strengthen food rescue efforts and make it easier for households and businesses to recycle food scraps. Businesses like Blantyre Farms in Young demonstrate what's possible when regional NSW has the right support to invest, grow and innovate.🌱 That's why we're continuing to invest in regional NSW through the Agriculture Industries Innovation and Growth Program, supporting projects that improve productivity, increase local manufacturing and open new market opportunities. The latest funding recipients include: • Hortifutura in Cessnock, transforming agricultural waste into renewable energy and recycled resources to support advanced nursery production. • AgConnex in Griffith, expanding rail, storage and processing facilities to strengthen supply chains and unlock new opportunities in the growing plant protein sector. • Provenance Propagation in Grafton, increasing seedling production through advanced growing systems, helping growers access high-quality plants more reliably. • Freeman Vineyards in Young, establishing NSW's first facility for producing non-alcoholic wine entirely within the state, keeping more value-adding and manufacturing in regional NSW. • Yieldtech in Coffs Harbour, creating building materials from Australian-grown hemp by-products and supporting regional manufacturing jobs. • AWH in Goulburn, developing a new digital wool auction facility that will bring more of the wool supply chain closer to production areas. Sydney Trains has welcomed one of its largest cohorts of female apprentices, with the 2026 intake increasing by 50% compared with last year. Women now make up 11.1% of all Sydney Trains apprentices, reflecting growing opportunities for women in traditionally male-dominated trades and careers across the rail industry. The milestone coincides with the opening of a new state-of-the-art Skills Development Centre at the Auburn Heavy Maintenance Centre, where apprentices will gain hands-on experience in bench work, fabrication, welding, machining, wiring and precision tools. By investing in skills development, training and workforce diversity, Sydney Trains is helping build the next generation of skilled rail workers who will keep Sydney moving for years to come.

New green space for recreation and community in Western Sydney.🌿 We’ll transfer 28 hectares of surplus land along the Duck River Corridor, between Auburn and Granville, from the Office of Strategic Lands to Cumberland City Council. This land will be permanently protected as public open space, helping connect communities, waterways and parks through the geographic heart of Sydney.

AusAlert test alert – Today 🚨 AusAlert, a new national warning system that uses the latest technology, is being launched by the Australian Government to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices. AusAlert will launch in October 2026, but before then it is being tested across Australia. On Monday 27 July, your mobile phone, tablet or smart watch may receive a test alert. The test times: • 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS) • 1:30 pm ACST (SA, NT, Broken Hill NSW) • 12:00 pm AWST (WA) Devices will: • vibrate • play a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds • get a message on screen confirming it’s a test. It will make this noise today even if your device is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’. If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour. This is only a test, so you don’t need to do anything. In a real emergency, you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.
