𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗗𝗖𝗦 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 🎯 On Friday 7 August, the graduates of DCS’ 2025-2026 Aboriginal Traineeship Program were officially recognised at a graduation ceremony. Congratulations to Chloe Canuto, Danica Maksimovic, Dylan Ellis, Eliza Cooper, Joshua Rooke, Liam Clarke, Riley Richards and Tahlayah Holden. The Aboriginal Traineeship Program was first established in 2020 as a key strategic initiative to support DCS in achieving our previous Aboriginal workforce participation target of 6%. A mark we now well exceed and have increased to 8%. The Program engages Aboriginal people over the age of 18 to begin a full-time career in the public sector. Trainees are supported over a 12-month period to build their skills and capacity as Administration Officers, undertake professional development activities and study toward a Certificate III Business. This year’s class is the fourth iteration of the Aboriginal Traineeship Program since the inaugural program in 2020. Our program has now supported 20 Aboriginal men and women in obtaining ongoing employment in the public sector along with obtaining a Certificate III Business, an achievement the Department is very proud of. 🕊️ 𝗔 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲 🕊️ Yatala Labour Prison has installed a new Peace Pole, generously donated by Rotary Club of Adelaide Inc. Placed in a quiet space for staff and visitors to reflect, it serves as a powerful reminder that peace, calm, and shared humanity can grow in any environment. The Rotary Club creates incredible “Nurture Kits” packed with hand cream, mugs, puzzles, and treats to remind frontline workers they are valued.  Reflecting the community's diversity, the pole features the universal message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in Kaurna, English, Punjabi, and Vietnamese. Chosen by staff, it also includes Poppies of Remembrance and a vital mental health affirmation to reinforce themes of dignity and healing. Crafted by Heidi Unferdorben of Peace Poles Oceana, the project comes full circle, with the printed message panels used on Peace Poles across Australia are manufactured right inside the Yatala Labour Prison Sign Shop.
