[livejournal.com profile] sallymn gave me still more icons for the icon meme. I think I've already talked about some of these before, actually, but that's hardly going to stop me from doing it again.

1.

I actually made this one myself, from an image I found online somewhere. It's a picture of a petroglyph (rock carving) from Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, thought to represent an observation of the Crab Nebula supernova explosion in 1054 AD. I've actually visited Chaco and hiked up to take a look at it, which was a really cool experience.

I've been known to use this icon when talking about New Mexico or about astronomy, but not recently, because I deleted it a while back to make room for new icons, and I keep forgetting that I re-uploaded it when they upped the icon quota.

2.

This is Dr. Thaddeus S. "Rusty" Venture, from The Venture Bros. a definitely-not-for-little-kids cartoon that I have become ridiculously addicted to. (Although it's on a long hiatus at the moment, alas.) The show is a very sharp, satirical parody of, among other things, Johnny Quest.

In this particular scene, Dr. Venture and family are trapped in a pyramid with moving spiked walls, causing him to utter the "we're trapped in a cliche" complaint. The guy totally knows a cliche when he sees one, because he sees a lot of them. For that matter, so do I. The icon is by [livejournal.com profile] curtana.

3.

The Doctor Who version of my Zen "Information" icon, made for me very recently by [livejournal.com profile] dameruth. The angel robot/statues were a computerized information system seen in the episode "Voyage of the Damned"... Until they started killing people instead, as tends to happen on Doctor Who.

4.

This one is by [livejournal.com profile] pepper_field, who I believe did an entire series of icons involving Jack O'Neill's grammar tips, inspired, probably, by a scene in canon where he snarkily criticizes a bad guy for ending a sentence with a preposition. (Which is a completely bogus "rule," by the way, but never mind. It was still funny.)

I think this is one of the first ones I snurched when they raised the icon limit, but I don't believe I've ever actually used it. Apparently I have less occasion to snark about grammar than I expected.

5.

Another Venture Bros. icon, this time featuring Brock and H.E.L.P.eR. the robot having a conversation about Led Zeppelin. (The dialog actually comes from canon. The robot's sounds like a lot of bleeping when pronounced.) Unlike Brock, I'm not really a big Zeppelin fan, but it's a fun icon, and I'd been wanting one I could use for taking about music, so I snapped it up. It's by [livejournal.com profile] terrie.
