I liked it. It was different to the book but in a good way. And everyones got to have a bit of JayZ in the 1920s…
But all I could think was how hard I ship a Tom/Nick/Gatsby love triangle.
Think about it:
Past!Tom/Nick - i.e. college. But cause of Tom’s family and their wealth and shizz he had to many a woman. And why not Nicks cousin Daisy? Then he still has an excuse to see Nick right?
But Nick isn’t one for playing the mistress. So he disappears from Toms life (until he moves to Long Island). B/c he knows he can never say no to Tom but he can’t do that to his cousin.
Then Nick obvs meets Gatsby and is obvs gagging for the D.
And Tom gets jelly.
All the while Gatsby is internally warring with himself, he’s wanted Daisy Fay for so long he doesn’t know how to want anything else so these conflicting feelings he’s getting for Nick drive him crey crey.
That empty feeling.
May. 29th, 2013 04:03 pmMy new saying in life is: Game of Thrones is a lifestyle choice. And that is seriously how I feel about it. So this weekend was HORRIBLE. How dare it be a public holiday when I need my fix. Rude.
I'm kidding obviously.
So I'm going to talk about my thoughts on S3 E8 - Second Sons. So watch out for spoilers
- First, the name of the episode. I don't think it was the right one to go with, I mean I'm not sure yet if they're based on chapter titles? I haven't started reading the books yet. That's my summer task. But it just felt like the episode should of concentrated more on Tyrion and Sansa's marriage. It was definitely the most heart wrenching point of the episode. I just want to hold her!
- Speaking of the wedding, is it me or did no one bother really dressing up? Maybe that was the point, I mean maybe it was to show that this really really was not a happy occasion. In fact the only two that did were Cercei and Joffrey, maybe this reflects that the only people really benefiting from this marriage are the Lannisters.
- Female nudity. Thats always a thing we can count on in GoT. You know they have to be consistent. I feel like the Red Woman and Dany were almost juxtaposed in their nudity this episode. They both obviously show female power (funny how its always naked female power, what does that say about men? jk.) The Red Woman covering Gendry with leaches is like the hag and the whore mixed together if we're talking female stereotypes, she's the embodiment of what a medieval man would fear in a woman. Where as Dany's bath scene contrasted both with the backdrop being light in colour unlike Dragonstone and the Red Woman, and the nature of her power, her body is not a means to power, it's almost just an accessory. Mind you the guy that infiltraited her bath seems to think he's getting some. I hope he doesn't, but I liked his attitude to prostitutes. So far I like him, but don't trust him. Never trust anyone in GoT.
- I missed John Snow.
So yeah. I'm sorry if you either 1. Haven't watched it yet, but I did warn you. or 2. Don't watch GoT and are following me for other reasons, I'll get to them. I think.
So my next exam is Approaches to Literature, it's pre released so it's not as scary as my last one which was a 3 hour unseen closed book Medieval Literature exam! That was scary.
The two questions I have picked are 1. The representation of masculinity in Everyman and 2. A deconstruction of Wordsworths poetry.
So far no. 1 is a breeze but I am not looking forward to starting no. 2.
The exam is on thursday! Wish me luck ;)
I wrote a Kingdom Hearts fic once...
May. 19th, 2013 01:10 amIt could probably be classed as a drabble. So I'm going to post it here because once upon a time it was my baby. So here.
Title: Sitting in a Tree
Ship: Akuroku
Rating: G
Summary: Axel and Roxas sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G
Axel and Roxas sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G...
Axel is sat on the lowest branch of a tall oak tree, swinging his skinny legs backwards and forwards. Today is his sixth birthday and he is waiting for his best friend to turn up so they could toddle back to his house and have some strawberry jelly! Axel likes strawberry jelly because its red, the best colour in the world; according to him.
Roxas' cheeks are red and he is panting pretty hard by the time he reaches the oak tree. Axel's face lights up as soon as he looks up and sees the blonde grinning goofily. Roxas hands Axel his birthday present, which is wrapped in bright green paper with a red bow and hoists himself upon the same branch that Axel is sat on. According to Axel, the bow is the best part.
The redhead carefully unwraps his present and sees that his friend has gotten him a big photo album which he opens and finds it to be full of him and Roxas
"Best friends forever right Axel?" mumbles Roxas shyly. Axel nods his head firmly and gives Roxas a quick kiss on the cheek and peeks at Roxas through the corner of his eye. The blonde boy is bright red Axel smiles 'The best colour in the world.'
--
First comes love...
A whole ten years and a couple of months later one can find Axel possibly wearing a hole in Roxas' front lawn as he paces rather viciously in front of his door. The blonde, who is sitting at his living room window, watches the redhead succeed in stressing himself out, and opens up the window.
"Hey Axel." Axel blinks and his head shoots up so fast Roxas thinks it might come off, "what are you doing here?"
"I-uh um I need to um tell you- um something..." Axels palms are sweating, he is pretty sure he's blushing, which isn't good because as far as he's concerned red is a bad colour, yellow is so much brighter anyway, like the sun.
"Ax, I don't have all day."
"Roxas..." Axel strides up to the window and takes a deep breath "I l- love you..." he whispers shyly, not looking at the blonde boy whose grin is so huge it could rival a clowns. The smaller boy hops out of his window and collides hard with Axel's stomach
"I love you too... stupid." Axel smiles and nuzzles his nose into his loves hair, 'Yes,' he has decided, 'yellow is the best colour in the world.'
--
Then comes marriage...
Three years later just a year out of high school and a year into collage Axel is stood in a smallish room with a grumpy looking old man in a suit. He is wearing his father's best tuxedo and is humming the tune to 'Mary Has a Little Lamb' under his breath. The big wooden doors behind him burst open and in comes Roxas' mother weeping into her handkerchief. She nods to Axel who nods to the grumpy man, whom indicates for everyone in the room – Axels mum and dad and Roxas' mother and sister – to rise as the record player in the corner plays out the 'Wedding March'.
Roxas is wearing a blindingly white suit and is walking arm and arm with his father down the aisle, which isn't really an aisle more like a gap in the rows of empty chairs. He looks towards the end of the room at his future husband and smiles.
Axel grins back at Roxas, who looks beautiful in white, which is of course why he is the bride and not Axel. When Roxas reaches Axel the redhead leans over and whispers -
"White is the best colour in the world, but only because it's on you"
--
Then comes Roxas in a baby carriage.
"Nngh, arggh Axel it hurts oh god it hurts, just get it out of me please!" Roxas whimpers in pain.
"Ssh baby relax, its going to be okay just breathe." Axel sweeps the hair from the blondes' eyes and continues examining the splinter in Roxas' finger. In his rush to tidy up the house for the lady from the adoption agency, Roxas had failed to notice the stray splinter in the wood in the fireplace, resulting in many tears and tantrums.
"Axel, how can I relax when we're about to get a kid? Our kid. Aren't you nervous? What if we fail at being parents? What if he or she decides they don't like it here? What if..."
"Ssh, we'll be fine, you're going to make a great mummy Roxy." This earns Axel a playful slap on the backside, which results in the redhead turning a delightful cherry colour. He doesn't know about Axel, but red has always been the best colour in the whole wide world in Roxas' opinion.
My writing style has changed so much since I wrote this. But it still holds a special place in my heart. Ha.
Welcome back to my life photoshop!
May. 17th, 2013 12:27 pmThe verdict... not my best. At all. But! I'm still getting used to the software so I'll give myself a break. Most of the tools are pretty similar to paintshop but I'm still getting my head around most of it. Not sure what my feelings are about photoshop just yet but, meh.
So! Here they are, you can be the judge.
Team Human:

It was established in 1884 as The University College of North Wales and was one of the 3 original universities in Wales. The university used to be housed in a pub, funnily enough my primary school was named after a pub... Wales totally doesn't promote alcoholism. But in 1911 the building I know as Main Arts was opened and it's beautiful!

I'm new, go easy on me
May. 16th, 2013 05:18 amI recently started university so I'm like a newb in every part of my life right now.
So, here I am on dreamwidth, which I only found out existed like an hour ago. I don't really know how things work around here yet. Seems like a less complicated version of livejournal, which I have never really understood. I'm eternally hopeless. I know.
So a bit about me:
I'm 19. I am an English student. Yeah I read and shit. I love Medieval literature, It's like my new calling. I think I use the word like to much. It's a sickness. I write fanfic. Well, I try to I'm not exactly a speedy updater. I have photoshop, I'm not too good at it though. When I grow up I want to be a publisher of books. Books and literature is my passion. My undying passion. I am currently obsessed with Teen Wolf and Game of Thrones is a lifestyle choice. I have a mum, a dad and a not-so-little little brother. I currently live away from home in Bangor where I go to university.
I'm planning on using this like a sort of diary thing. So yeah.
