Victor I. Reus, M.D. is a Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry (on recall) at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and an investigator in the Center for Neurobiology and Behavior.

He is a former Medical Director of the Langley Porter Hospital and is Co-Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on a number of extramural supported research grants, as well as an editor of Focus:the Journal of Life Long Learning in Psychiatry and a former editor of Faculty 1000 reviews. He has received the APA/NIMH Vestermark Award for excellence as a psychiatric educator and the Distinguished Service in Psychiatry Award from the American College of Psychiatrists, served on the DSM-5 Oversight and Clinical and Public Health Committees, is an Emeritus Director and Vice-Chair of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and former Chair of the Psychiatry Residency Review Committee (RRC) for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and has been listed in successive editions of The Best Doctors in America and America's Top Doctors for over thirty-five years. In 2016 he was Chair of the Board of Directors of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the accrediting organization for 2000 providers, offering 1 million hours of CME annually to physicians. Dr. Reus currently serves as Chair of the Practice Guideline Writing Group for the American Psychiatric Association, and has been the Chair of the UCSF Human Research Institutional Review Board (Parnassus) for over twenty years. He has authored the chapter on psychiatric disorders and their treatment for Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine for the last 9 editions, and has published over 330 peer reviewed articles and chapters, with a particular emphasis on the biology and genetics of mood disorders, resulting in an h-index of 87 and over 30,000 citations (Google Scholar). 78 papers (GS) have received over 100 citations each, with 3 papers designated by Web of Science as in the top 1% of all cited papers for the field and publication year. A textbook, "The Psychopharmacology of Neurologic Disease", was published by Elsevier Press as Volume 165 of The Handbook of Clinical Neurology series in November 2019.
