...that I thought was worth re-posting, both as a reminder to myself and something other people might want to hear.

People-ing is difficult, but it helps to be gentle with myself when I'm thinking through how to do it. :)


The original post is buried in the comments on this chapter of a longer story by a friend, and part of a larger conversation that hits some grim topics as well as some fun ones. But I think the excerpt can also stand on its own.

(The epigraph to The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin, who is the 2016 Hugo Award winner for The Fifth Season, sequel is The Obelisk Gate; The Stone Sky is the third book, a book I just got today and immediately started reading.)
