Tomboy by Xdinary Heroes
Oct. 15th, 2022 10:55 pmSometimes music is so brilliant it hurts.
I do think it's better than the original, but perhaps it's an unfair comparison: this feels like a different song altogether. They arranged an entirely new, awe-inspiring soundscape for this cover.
I love Jooyeon's vocals, when he's growling and when he isn't (he's the bass guitarist with the long red-streaked hair). I love everything he does with his voice. I love his nose scrunches and eyebrow quirks. My favourite bit is the 2-minute mark, when the drums lead into a few moments of the keyboard being the only accompaniment to Jooyeon's voice, before the rest of the soundscape blooms back in.
I love that O.de used a megaphone during his rap (he's the one wearing a beret).
I love Junsu's vocals (he's the blonde keyboardist who sang 'Do you want a blonde barbie doll?' while rolling his eyes with delectable sass).
I love that the nails on Junhan's string-pressing hand are painted black while the nails on his strumming hand aren't. (He's the electric guitarist with hair dyed auburn.)
I love that Gaon (the guitarist with a black mullet) was bouncing around the stage while strumming with Jooyeon. They were having a blast and so was I.
The drummer, Gunil, did a solid throughout.
That said, here's the original song if you're wondering how different it is.

That's one of my favourites too! The others are 'Pirates' and 'Knock Down' (gonna make another squee post about these songs, actually).
