Country stars the Dixie Chicks have had a record day for ticket sales as their concert tour raked in $49m (�30.5m).
The Grammy award-winning trio sold out all 867,000 tickets in a day, surpassing the popularity of tours of stars such as Madonna and Sir Paul McCartney.
The group embark on their 59-date tour on 1 May in Greenville, South Carolina, and finish the US leg on 4 August in Nashville, Tennessee, the heartland of country music.
They then head off to Europe, starting in Stockholm, Sweden, on 6 September.
The Dixie Chicks picked up three Grammys at last months ceremony, including best country album and best country group performance.
One of the largest ticketing organisations, Ticketmaster, said it had logged more than one million tickets on Saturday, breaking its record set in 2000.
It said the record had been helped by the enormous demand for seats for the Dixie Chicks and Bruce Springsteen arena tours.
Country artist Tim McGraw has also set a record by performing in front of 68,000 people at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show.
McGraw, who is married to fellow country star Faith Hill, is touring to promote his double-platinum album Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors.
